Fiberglass tape

Are people using 3" or 4" tape for the CS17? Boatbuilder Central lists an epoxy kit that includes 4" tape for the CS17. The materials list specifies 3". Also I see 9 oz tape available and not the 10 oz tape specified in the materials list. My plywood will be arriving by next Monday and I hope to get started Thanksgiving weekend.

3 inch or 4 inch, 9 oz or 10 oz? I don't see where it makes much difference. Use whatever you can get the cheapest. Just my humble opinion as a long time small boat builder.

I agree with Arnie, 4" will work just fine. The weights are nominal, 9- 10oz will vary within 1oz between manufactures.

I don't know if was Marvin who emailed me tonight asking about how many layers of glass are used in the hull of a Spindrift and Mini. I accidently deleted your email while dumping spam so I can't reply. The answer is one layer.

It was me Graham, and thanks for the reply. You include a very specific detail of the layering of glass for the nesting bulkheads that I found it odd that no mention was made of the rest of the seams.

Speaking of glass weight: the stuff I ordered is 9.5 oz.. The supplier we use at work has several widths but just the one weight.

My plywood just came in as well and hope to start laying out panels sunday if I can get my boat covered saturday.

I am glad that I was able to reach you. I was equally dismayed that I was unable to find the taping spec on the plan.

I starting adding it to each plan this morning when I discovered that the older plans had a nice drawing showing the seam in detail but it had been lost in the more updated plans.

This is one of the many virtues of this forum.
