Johannah Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 Beautiful. What's the colour going to be? Have you started your spars? What wood are you using for them? Details please. Quote
capt jake Posted January 27, 2003 Author Posted January 27, 2003 Color is going to be the slightly off white that you see on the hull sides. Spars and everything else are done. I only have the drop boards to make, other than that, no more sawdust, bummer!!! Spars are laminated clear vertical grain Fir, $$$. I intended to have completely round spars in the beginning, but they are the square configuration now!! LOL I think I need an accent color between the rubrails. I am leaning towards a dark green, but how to get it on there?? The painter is only going to be here for a few hours. I have to think on this one for a bit. The trim is all Mahogany, which really doesn't who up that well in the photos, as most of it is sanded at the moment. Quote
capt jake Posted January 27, 2003 Author Posted January 27, 2003 Ray, you must work for interlux!! LOL A pint would be more than enough to do that! Alas, you may have a point, go with somehting to do the trim paint and then mask of everyting else. But!!! I will NOT be using all of their primer hullabaloo! It better go on well as it stands. LOL this auto paint went on pretty slick, just need to get a slower reducer or lower the shop temps. Do they sell pints of Brightsides?? Quote
capt jake Posted January 27, 2003 Author Posted January 27, 2003 Ray, you are a PIMA!! LOL If I had gone with interluxes recomendations, I would be into this well over $200, probably into hte nearing 300 mark. I haven't reached that yet, even with the 'mistake' paint. Not to mention, interlux says to apply this coat, then that coat, and oh by the way sand in between this coat and that coat.....then apply another coat of this stuff and that stuff... Interlux is way to anal on the topic. And you thought I was?? I talked to there tech line..Tech?? right!! More like, "let me look in a book and give you what I think is right, but iI am not sure"... Have you ever called them and asked a technical question?? If you haven't, don't waste your time. All they do is confuse the issue. All right, I am done ranting. I understand where you are coming from Ray, but I am not going to use that paint!! Maybe on the trim... MAYBE!!! :D Quote
Levi Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 And it looks great Capt! You will have to come up with a new signature line soon....your sanding days are numbered? Fine looking and you should be proud. Quote
Johannah Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 Dark Green would look good between the rails. How about calling the agreeable paint guy in Rhode Island (Kirby, I think, mentioned often on the WBF). He is good at matching or mixing custom colour and might have smaller amounts. You can talk to the actual paint guy there. [attachment over 4 years old deleted by admin] Quote
Chris Gerkin Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 You have done a great job. I bet she sails as well as she looks. Quote
capt jake Posted January 27, 2003 Author Posted January 27, 2003 Chris, it's not the boats' sailing ability I am worried about. :D Ray, you do harrass me, but that's OK. Yes I am anal about things. If you are going to do any job, do it right!!! That's what I try to live by...but then again, I sand too much. Quote
Johannah Posted January 28, 2003 Posted January 28, 2003 Still trying to learn how all the cool new stuff on this board works. Thus will attempt to put the link for Kirby Paint. Jake, wish we could come help or at least get to see the automotive spray guy in action. It sounds so cool. But I too remember your kayak picture (it's on the calendar in the kitchen after all). How are you going to bear knocking around a boat with that level of finish? http://kirbypaint.com/[/url][/url] Quote
Johannah Posted January 28, 2003 Posted January 28, 2003 OK, that didn't work. What did I do wrong? Help! Quote

Or you can type the URL, highlight it, and then click the button URL and it will apply the URL tags on beginning and end. Just don't ask me how to click and select when you don't have a mouse, and you're on a Mac! Quote
Johannah Posted January 28, 2003 Posted January 28, 2003 Sorry Frank, it's all wrong but works now. Quote
