waynemunro Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 Well, we are in the midst of summer down here in NZ, and a couple of weeks ago buck was nice enough to allow me to share his holiday in Marahau, a picturesque area near the top of the South Island. Thanks for the excellent holiday Buck. We had a great time, with some excellent sailing days. I had some car trouble on the way up, but this did not detract at all from the holiday (my car is still in the middle of nowhere needing an engine recondition). The weather was light winds and calm some days, and good 20 knots winds and sizeable waves other days. I took a fair amount of video with my digital camera and have made a short sampler for anyone interested. It is mostly shots of my or bucks weekenders sailing along (more of bucks than mine). waynemunro Posted January 29, 2006 Author Posted January 29, 2006 Glad that you all like the movie, it was fun to put together, I do seem to re-live the sailing while watching them myself. Funny though how the waves never seem quite so large in the video as they do when the boat appears to be teetering on the top of them.. One thing is that when it was really rough there was no time to free one hand up for videoing, I might need to figure out some way to attach the camera to part of the boat and control it remotely. did have the idea of flying a kite from the boat with the camera attached to take a shot from above.. would be pretty lucky if it worked out, but would look cool Quote

I threw in that 'one good run' book, the Bert Munro biography for you to read too. as you note in the other thread, it seems likely that our sail differences represent the lions share of the light wind speed differences. I hope your first day back at work is not too much drudgery. Quote

We went Kayaking on Saturday, a bit cold, but crisp and sunny. I could have put the boat in the water, had the tiller been ready. :? I can sense everybodies ears pricking up at the mention of an 18 minute version :shock: Any chance of putting it up on the website? I'd certainly take the hit of the download, if the 3 minute version is anything to go by. Quote
waynemunro Posted January 30, 2006 Author Posted January 30, 2006 well... the 18 minute version is basically an extended version of the 3 minute version. It contains the almost unedited footage taken during the trip just whacked end to end (and a different sound track starting with the flying pickets). So each bit of footage in the 3 minute version is extended from 10 seconds to a minute.. However if you don't think that would be boring I can convert it and put it up - not too sure how large it would be, 6 times bigger I guess Quote

You will see when watching this that I took most of the more interesting bits for the shorter version, however I still like watching this one too. Quote

waynemunro Posted February 1, 2006 Author Posted February 1, 2006 ahh, yes we did have great weather when we were there Fintan, though they do have some of the best weather in the country there, these videos are spread over 4 days of the 7 we were there, I think. There was something wrong with the upload, I have just repaired it , so the last few minutes should be avaliable now. Quote
