Stump Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 This is regarding the used 2 hps I picked up. I'm trying to get some information on the motor. Like maybe some type of manual for it. The Yamaha site only goes back to 1984 with the number 2SN. Looking a the expansions it looks like it might be the same as the 2SK that I have, but I don't know. :? All the numbers listed are 2SK 6A1 080703 on my motor. I got the 5 hps running and it is old enough that even I can figure it out...more or less. Can't get the 2 HPS to fire. Seems to have gas and I believe I opened the valve and I think that slide lever is a choke and I think that little turn lever thingy (I believe that is the engineering term) engages the prop????? I guess what I'm saying is I don't know squat about motors... HELP :shock: :? :shock: :oops: :roll: :x Quote

On my Johnson, even though they look the same, the actual parts are different from years to year (and even half year). Quote
barnacle5 Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 ok I got several old motors. remove the spark plug and put the coil wire back on it and lie the spark plug on the engine to ground it. pull the rope and see if you have spark. if you have spark squirt a little wd 40 into the spark plug hole ( the highly flamable type) and install the plug . pull the rope and see if it will fire and run. if it fires, runs and quits it is fuel starved. you may repeat the process a few times and they will pick up the fuel and run on but you may have to remove the float bowl on the bottom of the carb and clean the main jet . if it has no spark you are probably going to have to clean and adjust the points . if you've never done that before you need to seek some more experienced help. hope that helps. bill Quote

barnacle5 Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 if it is water cooled make sure you run it in a barrel or tub of water to protect the water pump and keep the engine from overheating. usually you can get them running with a minimal of work even if they have been sitting a while. good luck. bill Quote
