How about a layout with a coffin berth in the PS22?

I haven't studied the PS 22 plans carefully enough yet to make my own assessment, but i am thinking about a coffin berth (or two), to stow the junior crew.

I still want cockpit storage, of course! :wink:

Graham did such a nice job on showing an alernative layout, that i could not resist this post.

Under the cockpit seat, I think. Good way to describe those holes anyway. They are often called quarter berths too.

A berth that is completely enclosed, and must be entered feet first (unless you are an acrobat).

On the PS22, that would be under acockpit seat.

My guess is that it is called a "coffin" berth

because in an emergency situtation, such as sinking, slow egress could be life-threatening.

I think it is called a "coffin" because it so closely resembles one when in it, not because of its potential to become one....good idea though

LOL- I think the term "Quarter berth" is correct, and came about because they are on the quarters of the yacht. The quarters are aft of amidships, the bows are forward.

Anyways, i've singlehanded on some big water since i was ten with no problems, don't anticipate sinking at all (although friends saw a gray whale breach in Puget Sounds two weeks ago, that is rare and i'll have to watch out for the big fellows!)

I prefer Charlies version of the quarterberth definition.

There is not enough height under the cockpit for a quarter berth on the standard P22, even on the + 3" version I have only drawn in a footwell under the bridge deck.
