Introduction

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Noel, and I live in Bothell, WA. I just acquired a Weekender this April from its original builder. It has kept me quite busy with repairs, corrections and upgrades.

I've been lurking on this site for some time now, but wasn't able to join due to ISP issues, which are now finally resolved.

Thanks to Barry for both pointing me to this site, and for taking the time to stop by my place and look at my boat and recommend a few much-needed corrections.

I'm looking forward to meeting, and sailing with, the other list members in western Washington. I have especially enjoyed reading sailing/trip reports here on the list.

Welcome but please be carefull if you meet a fellow with a little red firefighters hat on his balding head. He will reintroduce you to sandpaper and you may not get on the water till next year this time.

How did you know I had a balding head? It is because of all of the epoxy taht has ended up there.

Hey Noel, welcome. Did you end up with Derek's boat? He lives on Steemboat Island. Barry's a great guy, with much knowledge.

Balding head, sheesh, I get no respect....... :shock:

Oh yeah, sandpaper is cheaper if you buy the really BIG boxes.

Welcome aboard. The Western Washington Fleet is growing. How many are over in that area now? You people need to have a get-to-gether and announce it so the Oregon fleet and rest of us Washington wannabes can come and dream.

Well, I had a 50/50 chance of getting it right, with that dang hat on your head for so many years. :twisted:

Be carefull, Jake likes to "give lessons" on how to sand, and he will tell you that he would not like for you to messup your boat, so feel free to practice on his old clunker , the beginner project for him.

No, the guy that I got the boat from wasn't named Derek. But the boat could certainly use a good sanding. The glass was just kind of "draped" over the boat, and let harden. And then painted. No sanding was done that I can tell. The bubbles weren't even all pressed out. definitely a "workboat" finish.

But it sails as is, so I am not undertaking any large tasks on it right now. That can wait until winter. I have replaced the tiller handle, tightened the rudder box, re-routed the main sheet, replaced the tabernacle to correct the mast angle, rebuilt the gaff, and made a dozen minor tweaks here and there. Lots to keep me busy. But it is nice starting out with a boat that was all ready to sail.

So far I have only sailed it on Lake Washington.

Hi Noel,

Been wondering how things were coming along. Hadn't heard anything and was afraid I'd frightened you and you got rid of it.

That would have been too bad if you had. Stump is planning on going out on Monday from Magnuson Park. I was planning on going out for awhile too with him. Get a chance drop on down as well. Get two more Weekender owners introduced to each other.

Barry's right Noel. Come on an join us if you can!!! I plan on getting there about 10:00. Barry has to leave at the latest 5:00, but if the wind is up I plan on staying longer. Mondays are great, fewer stinkpots and pwc's. 8)
