I hate fiberglassing!!!!!!!!!

so I'm almost done with the topside and I mix the epoxy like always and get to work. Within 10 minutes it begins to steam...skim on the top...it got HOT!!! :shock: :? melted the liner I had in the paint tray. solidified in the next 3 minutes :shock: :shock:

Being the brave soul I am :roll: I mixed another, smaller batch and finished the job. That too began to go off extra quick. Must be warmer than I thought here in the NW....

OK, so let it dry over night. fair and sand then paint. I used to hate painting but compared to fiberglassing I like it.

Looks like I'll have her done by the end of the month!!

You know, people built plywood boats for years without this stuff fibreglass and epoxy stuff...

You've seen where I work :shock: There is a distinct possibility of the sun causing problems...sometimes I forget that it is an issue seeing where we live and all

That's OK, I got another gallon of bondo so I figure I'll fill and smooth (as much as I ever do :oops: ) with that. Then, when it falls out I'll fill it again. :roll: that will help keep the paint fresh

Epoxy will have a much longer pot life if it's spread out THIN not pooled in the deep end of a paint tray liner (though I use them and Tupperware lids all the time) 1/8" thick is too much on warm days, unless you use a slow hardener like West 209. When I mix with a filler I use a piece of scrap plywood to spread it out on (after mixing in hardener) to add the filler over a large area and keep the temperature as controlled as I can. Stay out of the sun, as has been brought up, it will make it kick quickly too.

What epoxy and hardener are you using? The temperature you're working in? What temperature is the epoxy (stored in sun warmed shed for example)?
