Set record high temperatures the last two days, over 70F.....That's a positive 70 BTW. I just couldn't stand it any longer. I drove down to Harding Lake to take a look. Yeah, NO! The boat ramp ain't gonna get used any time soon and the lake is still frizzed to the edges. Still a beautiful day to be out by the water, even if it is still a bit stiff for sailing. --John M. Mike Pennington Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 I was wondering how the lake was doing. Maybe by June I'm hard at work getting the wolf ready for Homer. Installing blue board in the bow and a quick coat of paint on the enterior floor. One on the outside too. Still working on that rudder, I don't know if I'll get it done in time for Homer. But the old ones still good for another sail. The trailer's ready to go, but I would like to weld a set of fenders on tomorrow. I still got to get the studded snow tires off the tow vehicle yet. Times getting short, so I don't know if I'm going to get the new mast and boom cut. Oh well, the battleship will survive another month without them. The batteries are all charged and I should have enough juice to power the new stereo :roll: Mike Quote
Craig Posted April 30, 2005 Posted April 30, 2005 I suspect spring has sprung here. It was over 70 degrees when I went out for the paper at 6 AM this morning. Now the grass will grow 24 hurs a day. What is that crap on your lake John?? Quote

I'm telling the truth, it grows six feet tall down in the medow. If you don't have a herd of cows, you can forget ever seeing dirt. Craig, that white stuff is styrofoam packing peanuts, we just sprinkle it on the lakes because we miss the snow so much. :shock: Quote

Just beef up the bows of your boats or build a false bow like they used to do on the old sailing ships and pretend your and icebreaker. :roll: Better yet why not add big wide leeboards on them and then you would have a combination iceboat and sailboat :twisted: Quote

If the stupid sun hadn't started to go down we might still be out there! My problem, even if the weather is nice enough outside, is that the water is often too bumpy. I like flat water, although that "flat and hard" water is another matter! Quote
Dave R1 Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Over the weekend we went to my sister's place for a family gathering. That was a little northeast of Eau Claire, WI. Yesterday it snowed--just flurries but it was enough to seriously reduce visibilty. This morning, as I type, there is snow on the deck and vehicles here. :roll: I distinctly recall last year at this time I didn't need a jacket. I wonder if it will ever get warm enough to work on the boat. Quote
Charlie Jones Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 We were wearing sweat shirts and long britches to work in the last couple days. Trying to install hardware on deck last night and had to quit cause it was just plain too chilly. 20 mph winds and temps down almost 50!! And this is South TEXAS on 1 MAY fr' cryin' out loud!!! Minn., chilly days on the Matagorda Bay and a beautiful blue, crystal clear day in the 70's in Denali Park yesterday. Drove down and in to the park yesterday fo the 30 miles they have the road open.
