smoolie671 Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 I finaly got some pictires of the cannons. Now this design will be shortened a bit and have a smaller carriage. Also note the bolt sticking out of the tops. We drilled the bolts top to bottom for the fuse hole. A little ugly, but it works. All the new ones will have percussion cap nipples so they can be fired with pull string hammers. [attachment over 4 years old deleted by admin] Quote

Several years ago I did a static display cannon (not as detailed or as nice as yours), and I used a pre-fabbed stair bannister post from the local Home Depot for the body of the cannon. So if you don't have a lathe, there are options such as that. 8) Quote

smoolie671 Posted October 17, 2004 Author Posted October 17, 2004 Doug, I built it from scratch. I did an exhaustive search on the web for someone who might have made them before me. I couldn't find anyone else. I had "heard" of someone who cast a concrete cannon with a metal barrel, but I was afraid of going that route. I could just see a shower of gravel the first time it went off! I figured how hard could it be. Drill the wood, weld the metal and fit it in the wood sleave. Just make sure you NEVER overload it with powder. More is NOT better! Quote
