Thanks Gary, I assume the application procedure for putting this product on epoxy coated plywood will be the same as their procedure for fiberglass.

I am about to turn my CS17 upside down for the last time (hopefully). I intend to finish the bottom of the hull while accumulating funds to purchase mast tubes. I saw Graham had mentioned Devoe epoxy by Glidden and he said something about a Sherwin Williams product which is supposed to be good. I get the feeling that bottom side paints don't offer the best looking finishes. My boat will most likely spend most of its time in the water in fresh water lakes with the occasional trip to the coast. By far the majority of the time will be on a trailer. Would the Devoe or Sherwin Williams products offer the UV protection needed or would they degrade like exposed epoxy. There are a lot of choices out there for a beginner. I am looking for a good finish which offers good protection at a reasonable price. ( I guess we all are) Any suggestions, comments, or criticisms would be appreciated.

Too bad they don't make those carts with auxilliary power. hmmm, There is a patent in there somewhere.

I agree with the very dangerous part. It would be a good idea to do a search and find some muzzleloading pistol barrels. More money but less shrapnell!

Have you tryed emailing Graham? I don't know how 2mm would compare to the recomended sase measurments but I wouldn't go with anything thinner than the recomended wall width. Escecially considering the problems coming out of Australia regarding bent masts. You'all must have a lot of wind down there!

Thanks for the input. I think I"ll just glass it and reinforce the vulnerable areas. I felt like that would be the consensus sense most people don't push the boat off of rocks with the rudder like I have been known to do with a paddle..

I built my rudder blade out of strips of fir laminated in the same manner as the CS plans call for the center board. This leaves end grain exposed. Of course it will be epoxied but in a book I have on building canoe paddles it says to cut a grove across the end grain and glue in a filler piece with the grain crosswise. This will prevent (or at least slow0 the intrusion of water should the seal ever be compromised. Canoe paddles on a white water river are probably more apt to come into contact with rocks and be compromised but I'm thinking that this might still be a good thing to do. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

It was exhillarating the first time the boat was opened. When the hull just falls into shape and takes form. Also kind of reasuring.

These are a couple of weeks old. I made the bulkheads and transom before I got the hull made. The transom worked fine and it looks like I will be able to use the forward bulkhead. I haven't even tryed to place the aft bulkhead yet. I also cut the individual pieces of the hull bottom out before butt-joining them together. When I first opened it I had gaps of up to 1 .25 inches. I refolded it three times taking down the high spots until I got it right. It looks like I may come out ok on these mistakes but I definately need to spend more time reading the plans before cutting the wood. [attachment over 4 years old deleted by admin]

CS 17 #113 is 3D and filleted. I seem to be challenged it the computer skills area. :oops: I can't get pictures to download. I am having trouble finding douglas fir which I started using for framing. Spruce is readily available. Any opinions as to the suitability of spruce for boat building? The trouble with living in the deep south is all anyone wants to grow is yellow pine!

I have just finished cutting out the side pieces and have started working on the butt joints getting ready to attach them to the bottom. The bottom gets bevelled to make it go together better. It doesn't seem to me that the side pieces should be bevelled along the bottom edge, however, it seems like if it were done properly it would work well. :? Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Can anyone tell this is my first boat? :oops:

I posted some months back that I had received my plans for hull #113. Well, last week I recieved my plywood order from Florida. Now every waking moment I find myself wanting to be in my shop turning this pile of wood into a boat. So far I have cut out the pieces to make the bottom and glued up one side. 8) I have yet to see anyone from Georgia on this forrum and have been wondering if anyone knows of any core sounds in Georgia?

Hello people. Just wanted wanted to introduce myself. I recently recieved plans for and intend to start building core sound 17 #113. I have been reading this forum for the past few days and find all of your insight fascinating. Their are some beautiful boats out there and I will do my best to add another one to the list. This is my first boat project (unless you count building new seats for my canoe).
