Nora Lee+ Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 I am Nora Lee, and I live in NE, NC on the "Inner Banks" of the Albemarle Sound. My husband and I are doing a refit on a 1968 Hugh Angleman, South Coaster 36. Her name is "Sea Fever" and she has owned us for 5 years. She is 42 oa and built of Teak, she was built in Saigon, Vietnam and rigged in Maylasia of Russian Stainless, she was sailed on her bottom to St Michaels on the Chesapeake and has been in Elizabeth City, NC for about 20 years. She is a Norfolk, Va documented boat. Anyone who might know the boat, please contact me as I am trying to research her history. I even have someone on WB Forum looking into her Vietnam connection for me. It took me almost 5 years to figure out that she was not a 'Sea Witch' as we had been told when we bought her, so you see I am patient! I also collect boaters! I assist with the Rose Buddies in EC, I take boaters to grocery, laundry etc and become friends in the process...my husband and I hope to liveaboard, by 2006. Nora, this is quite a talent you have here. :wink: Welcome and be forewarned this is a very mellow site. It also has a lot of late night owls here from the west coast and down under. It may fit you nightlife schedule also. It may take you a while to unwind here. The pace is a little slower but keep checking in and add when you can. Quote

Wish they'd been there when I came through E City back in the early 80's. But we found it a nice town even without them. Sure hope one day to cruise Dismal once more and stop in at Elizabeth City again. My wife and I are owned by several boats, smaller ones than yours, but owned none the less . Quote

Nora Lee+ Posted January 29, 2004 Author Posted January 29, 2004 "NE" North Carolina is just and abbreviation for Northeastern , NC, I am located on the Great Dismal Swamp Route of the ICW. My home is located in a small town called Hertford, on the Perquimins River, but Sea Fever is on the Pasquotank River, they both flow into the Albemarle Sound. Just inside the Northern Outer Banks, thus we are known as the Inner Bank! The Rose Buddies, greet boaters in Elizabeth City, and have a wine & cheese party, when there are 5 new boats in town. The city has 14 free slips that ICW boaters may stay at for 48 hours...however if the weather is snotty, and boats can't get across the sound, we have found room for as many as 30 boats, for a couple of weeks. (ie:Hurricane Gordon a while back) I don't participate in the parties much, but do take boaters to showers etc. (some need them more than others) :roll: :wink: I feel that by assisting the boaters, I am just getting to know my new community! I actually moved from the Hudson Valley in NY, because I read about the Rose Buddies, and I figured that if Elizabeth City liked boaters, 8) then they would tolerate the likes of Capt. We all want pictures, of course (some of these guys are too polite to ask, but I'm not shy!) Charlie Jones and I wrote to each other about the commitment to re-fit a 54' Chris Craft Constellation (if that's the right length), and Charlie advised me neither one of us has the life expectancy to do one of those ourselves. But its always been a dream .... to restore and then live on a boat you've restored. Quote
Nora Lee+ Posted January 30, 2004 Author Posted January 30, 2004 I will post pictures, do I need to post to imagestation before posting to this site, I am a bit dumb when it comes to these things till I actual do it. Sea Fever is ALL teak, with exception of the cabin top which needs to be replaced, her hull is 1 7/8'" thick. She is a planked hull, her decks, which need to be recaulked, are 1 1/2' thick, she is one built boat! While you are waiting for pics, just imagine the prettiest classic boat you can imagine, with a clipper bow and teak taff rail, with butterfly hatch, and you pretty much have Sea Fever. Her lines are a sight to behold. She has lost her bloom however, because we let mother nature strip her brightwork, it has taken two years, but the old back and lungs didn't go through all of the mess. We just sat in the cockpit having a couple of cold ones watching the varnish flake. She is powered by a Perkins 4-107 and she has only about 60 hours on the original engine, as she has always been a boat that has been sailed, not motored! Capt Jon is a diesel mechanic and he will be doing a rebuild 'just because'. We had a almost fire while Jon was changing the altinater (even spell check didn't know), so he ripped out the wiring harness and tossed it in the drink...She will be totally rewired, as the last previous owner just ran wires from the batteries, to whatever new gizmo he added. All the gizmos are gone too, just toys from Waste Marine. We plan to make Sea Fever, as simple as she can be, but with enough amenities to make her comfortable for some aging sailors. The Admiral wants a freezer and a heat pump , the Captain wants a wheel and binnacle.(our tiller sweeps the whole cockpit, it can seat about 12 people comfortably!) I am sure you all will get tired of hearing about Sea Fever, far sooner than I get tired of talking about her. She is all the boat we ever dreamed of and more than we ever thought we would own. Quote
