At Least She Is Still Afloat and Doing Well

Just got my issue of WB. There is an advert in the classifieds from

Dock Street Yachts ( page 102), showing a " 70' coastal schooner" built in 1969 by Nelson Hanson. Now I worked at NH around that time and the only vessel we built was the North Head and she was/is 54' and, it was more like 1966/67 than 1969!

So's I sits down in me chair and picks up Mr.Bell's invention and calls the broker up in Seattle, Washington State.

Ayup, tis the North Head and the lady on the other end of the wire fair bubbled over with excitement to talk to someone who actually helped build the old girl.

Gave her the 'skinny' on construction features and some how we did it stuff. Cleared up that bit about 70' O/A vs. 54' O/A too.

She is going to look on my Imagestation album of the North Head plus send me some updated photos of the vessel! Now that is a very nice after Christmas present, I'm thinkin'.

Nice story. I always wonder sometimes about some old girls of the bygone era. Oh how it is so nice to come across an old girl friend from days gone by. But I am sure there is someone in your life that will divert your attention back to reality, and tell you that you can look but you had better not touch. Album you say??? :?:

How can they make a mistake between 54' and 70'?

16' on a boat is a LOT.

Frank, I questioned the lady on that and she hemmed and hawed a bit and, then soto voiced made the comment that it must be the O/A measurement ie: from tip of bowsprit to aft tip of davit.

To me it is a 54 foot schooner rigged yacht that some fella converted to a PacNoWest troller.

Now the BIG QUESTION IS....how bad does she smell and how many gallons of Big Orange degreaser cleaner and how many canisters of Ozium is it gonna take to get the fish smell outta her? :cry:

Was told that the original paneling, Walnut for one and Cherry for the other if IIRC was put in storage when he converted her to trolling.

If'n I was in the buying mode and if'n she struck my fancy, I'm thinkin' a max of $125,000 USD for her with a damn fine survey first! :!:

Neat find there, Dave...funny...the $250k asking price doesn't say anything about the fish hold, most recent survey, or how the old Detroit Screamer is holding up.

Bob if that Detroit Demon is still the mill in that vessel it must have been overhauled a gazillion times by now.

It was not a new engine when we installed it.

And the gear for the rudder steering was out of a road grader that Dr. Parolova had a friend in the construction business overhaul.

Probably owed the good Doctor some money on a medical bill.
