beachbum Posted December 10, 2003 Posted December 10, 2003 I have been reading the forum for a while, but have never posted. I am one of Graham's students and I just wanted to post a couple of pictures of my 15.5' moc coming together. I'll post more later, but I thought it would be great to stir up more interest in canoes and kayaks on the forum. I am also building a 12' moccassin, but am in the process of cutting it out and do not have any pictures to post on it yet. [attachment over 4 years old deleted by admin] Quote
thebob Posted December 10, 2003 Posted December 10, 2003 It must be great to work with Grayham. If I wasn't half a world away I think I'd be taking classes. That moccassin looks cool I wonder how 2 hulls like that, would go as a catamaran. Post away it's been a bit quiet in here, but looks like a few CS17's are going together. At the other end of the scale I'm interestred in a Princess 26' I'm not even sure if one's been built yet. Quote
Designer Posted December 10, 2003 Posted December 10, 2003 Just thought y'all would like to see a couple more pics of another, nearly finished, Moccasin 2 being built in the boatbuilding class. Jeff did not have a large enough piece of wood for the breast hooks so instead of a plain glue line, we decided to "celebrate" the joint with walnut and ash. The seats were commercially made. To continue the "theme" the plugs covering the fastenings in the inwales will be in a dark contrasting wood. [attachment over 4 years old deleted by admin] Quote
thebob Posted December 11, 2003 Posted December 11, 2003 That really looks good. Be carefull Graham, if you start giving everyone ideas for beautiful finishing, it will slow us down and we won't buy as many plans What is your favorite design Graham? Quote
Brent Posted December 11, 2003 Posted December 11, 2003 Does the hard chine make the canoe a little more stable... and maybe improve its tracking? These boats have potential to be great for fishing. Quote
beachbum Posted December 12, 2003 Author Posted December 12, 2003 Hey Brent, make sure to take a look at the flyfisher. It may be just what you are looking for. http://www.bandbyachtdesigns.com/flyf.htm Quote
thebob Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 That is a very cool way to build a boat. I haven't really looked at the smaller designs, but that is both elegant and simple. Totally impressed. Quote
Brent Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 I have three cedar strip Wee Lassie canoes (the Mac Macarthy design). These boats are light weight and nimble. Great for running rivers and excellent for canoing in a heavy dew. But the rounded chine and narrow beam make them less stable. I was fishing in the gulf last summer, saw a fish strike out of the corner of my eye and must of swung my head, at the same time a small wave came through. Over we went. I dont have the skill to eskimo role a canoe while holding onto my fishing pole. Had to swim to shore to sort it out. A boat with a little more stability might be good. Quote
