Baby log, week 4...

~ After the "poop incident" in week two, I am happy to report that this has not recurred since. 8) There is a timed sequence and strategy to diaper changing.

~ He likes to be walked around a lot. If you stick him in the baby chair holder thingy he'll wail away. But if you hold him and walk around the house, he'll shut up within 20 seconds. I'm working on some sort of Stevenson-esque automated plywood robot to walk the 427 miles he requires each and every day.

~ We took professional photos of him over the weekend with us, they turned out great. Maybe I'll put one up here once we get them back.

~ He sleeps quite a ways through the night, considering he's only 24

days old. He'll sleep straight from 10 pm to 3 am. Then his day starts. (for my wife)

~ I cheat. I sleep in the spare bedroom, with earplugs in, and never wake up. I wholly endorse this. 8)

~ I LOVE the attention we get when I carry him around in public places, like church, the mall, etc. Nothing wrong with talking to all those other moms.

~ Lisa has forbidden me to play my "Korn" disks in the car when he's in the car seat. I tell her that someday he'll be listening to stuff that even EYE hate, so she should just get used to it now. Never the less, Korn has been replaced by Mike Stern. (check him out, great stuff)

~ Loving every minute of this.

That's all for now. Going diving in the sand pits this coming weekend. Look out, bass, here I come...

There used to be a gizmo called a Johnny Jump Up or something silly like that. Kid sits in a cloth seat, supported all around. Whole mess is suspended from a spring, which can be attached any number of places. Including being attached to the cabin ceiling in a sail boat. Boat heels, kid swings. Everybody wins.

Johnny jump ups are the bomb!! They are great little tools!!

Sounds great Konrad! I will have a simular joy next March when we will have a grandchild to play with. :)

I've got 5 of the little boogers - almost 8, 6, 5, 3, 15 months - and one more on the way.

Jolly jumpers are ok when their necks get a little stronger but what you need now is an automated rocker or cradle. They come in windup and battery operated and just wing back and forth until they fall asleep.

If your arms are geting tired, buy yourself one of the strapon baby carriers - they're easier on your back than carrying them and you have two hands free to go about your daily chores.

Buy your wife a good glider rocker. It'll help the baby nod off again at 3 a.m.

Also (this is a win-win) get up at 3 a.m. when the baby wakes up. If he's not hungry, your wife can stay in bed. If he is, she can feed him and then go back to bed.

By doing this, your wife will get her sleep and, trust me on this one, that'll pay off HUGE in the long run. As well, you'll find that he will associate you (as well as his mother) with care, protection, warmth, safety etc. so that when he's a little older you will be able to soothe him when mom goes out for a little while. This is really important - it establishes a powerful bond that you will not be able to make up for later.

Good luck - it's the greatest thing in the world. Especially when they fall asleep on your chest while your watching the hockey game - sigh.

Oh yeah - I forgot. About the Korn cds - ya gotta be careful with that stuff. My six year old daughter can belt out every Doors tune, every Jethro Tull tune - you haven't lived until your kid goes into Peace Frog in church.
