Dave R1 Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 A few weeks ago while I was working on the rigging for the "submarine" an old guy driving by stops in front of the house and yells to me that when I'm finished with it, he's going to buy it. I kind of blew him off and after jawing with him for a few minutes went on with my work and kind of forgot about him. Last night as I'm getting ready to sand on the mast for a bit, he pulls into the driveway and comes up to take a look. Eventually he says, "If you were going to sell it, how much would you want? $20,000?" I was too stupid to ask if he was making an offer. I told him that if I was going to sell, I'd be happy to get $9000. He just looked some more and said I was doing a nice job and that he really likes the colr scheme. I think if he was offering 20K, I'd sell it without sailing it. Quote

After all, I could then afford to buy another set of plans and use really good materials, and past experience to do a better job on a second one. Quote

I figured that if someone wanted to buy my Vacationer I would take 25K. $20,000 for a Weekender, take the money and run to the lumberyard and buy the material for another. Or, buy a 27-30 ft. plastic boat. Personally, I would become the owner of a Catilina 30 real quick. Here a while back someone posted a link to a professional boat builder that had built a Weekender for the Chicago Woodenboat show. They where selling it for $18,000 after the show was over. Charlie Jones Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 That's the one I built One of the other principals in the company decided to sail the boat for himself actually, but if someone really wanted it, he'd sell. I kept the Sharpie that was built for the same show and we sail it as often as possible. If folks on this board would like to see pics of the B and B Princess I'm building, I'd be happy to post them here also. We just got electricity back at 2200 this evening. House, boats ,shop etc all fine after going directly through the eye of Claudette. The plants directly across the bay from my house registered winds around 110 mph during this "minimal" class 1 storm. HAH!! I sure don't want to ride out a cat 2 or better, I tell you for sure. LOTS of damage around Port Lavaca and surrounding areas. Only two deaths fortunately and both of them were due to flying debris. Pays to keep your head down!! Quote

Actually, the princess is one of my favorites of the B&B designs. You do beautiful work and could contribute much to some of our discusions here. Don't be afraid to show off your work.
