Color is going to be the slightly off white that you see on the hull sides. Spars and everything else are done. I only have the drop boards to make, other than that, no more sawdust, bummer!!! Spars are laminated clear vertical grain Fir, $$$. I intended to have completely round spars in the beginning, but they are the square configuration now!! LOL I think I need an accent color between the rubrails. I am leaning towards a dark green, but how to get it on there?? The painter is only going to be here for a few hours. I have to think on this one for a bit. The trim is all Mahogany, which really doesn't who up that well in the photos, as most of it is sanded at the moment.

To add to your confusion... I don't see any reason to not cover the keel with glass and epoxy. Drying out doesn't make sense to me..what about the reast of the sheathed hull?? Anyway, mine has up to 4 layers of 6 oz cloth on the keel. the hull has 1 layer. It took a ptreety god hit during the last rollover, but only a minor dent. About the size of a quarter, after hitting a very square corner (darned welder anyway!). LOL A little bondo and all is well.. 8)

Actually, those are quotes (or they are supposed to be) of an off line conversation concerning the paint. I thought it might help others with paint. I talk to myself all the time, I've yet to answer though.

That's funny, as that is exactly the one I was refering to. Just didn't have the catologue in front of me. Thanks for the communications advice. :)

Jo, any decisions on the radio?? I was thumbing through Boaters World 2002 catologue and they had several for as low as $100.

A fellow from another forum offered to come and spray it. All I have to do is buy materials and buy him lunch. i rolled teh paint on hte bottom with a very fine foam roller. Turned ou OK for the bottom, though I wouldn't be happy if it were visible. He had ma paint just the bottom up to the chine but not over it. I will mask all of hte bright work and then he will spray it in one shot!! "So Jake? How much time and mney is the paint job ending up with? Time?? Too much, but that is to be expected with any project I suppose." (this was supposed to be a quote) Money?? Not counting the cost of the paint taht didn't work out ($50 plus or minus), the auto paint will end up areound $150-$175. I have most of the supplies already, but I may need another qt, $35. Thing is with auto paint 1 qt equals 2 when all of hte additives are added to it. this stuff is hard and I couldn't scratch it with my nails after a week. I have hard thick nails also, so I was really trying to do something to it. I hope you dont' mind that I quoted this an posted it to the board. I saw no problem with doing it! Nope, they are pricey for most things. Though the money does go to a good cause, Habitat For Humanity. This place is in Puyallup, on Main Street. Building Materials Outlet, big yellow building just East of 512 on Main. Their stock turns quickly. They had three huge slings of Honduran and African a month ago, now it is all but gone. They have a big variety, most will need planing. Derick, we can talk about the plaing if you need!! :wink:

Welcome Islands!! Well, you will get as many opinions as they are members on this topic. You are better off with laminations, as they help to stabilize the movement of the wood. Your idea of reclaimed wood is great. I always like to reuse rather than waste new, if you follow me on that. Hemlock wold be another option. you can find it readily in lumber yards. It is used for interior trim quite a bit (thank you Arnie for refreshing my memory). I saw some really nice Southern Yellow Pine in Lowes the other day, but it was pricey. They were calling it something other than what it truly is. BTW Southern Yellow Pine is far better than White Pine (the knotty stuff that you find everywhere). Joel built his out of laminations of plywood. I am unclear on what you mean by voids in s4s off the shelf. If you want to buy tools, a planer is a great tool to have. I generally buy rough and plane it my self. I save some money, but that turns into a litttle time. There is a store near here that is a building material outlet. They have a lot of Fir, Mahogany, etc at nearly 1/3 the normal retail price. See if you can find something like this in your area. This is where I bought all of my Mahogany, $3/bf. Good luck!!

I know, you thought I was going to say the end of my mind! HA! Nope, I finally got her upright (again) and I am on the final leg(s). I finally felt well enough yesterday to make some real progress. I got some more of the brightwork attached and some final fairing done also. I have to attach the splash coaming and the hatch slides yet. Then some varnish prior to masking for paint. I will be having the boat sprayed with an automotive acrylic enamel. Delstar by PPG. This stuff gets really hard after just a few days. I mean really hard!! I felt well enough yesterday, but I am paying for it today. Haven't been able to do anything today (again). Hopefully tommorrow. Have to do something, I am going nuts and getting weaker every day from lack of 'anything'! Yeah Paul, I know, I already am nuts!

Well this is timely. I didn't notice any slowdown here, but I have another question for you. I have been recieving a lot of infected e-mails lately, from people I do not know. Just a few minutes ago, I received a nasty e-mail from somebody telling me to stop sending infected e-mails. My machine scans clean and uploads the latest virus definitions daily. How did this person receive an infected e-mail from my e-mail address if I didn't send it?? :?

I don't know what all the m fuss is. I have ben using IE explorer for years! No problems as long as you have virus protection. I used to use Netscape, but then they fell behind the curve (a long time ago), so I went to something that was updated on a regular basis. Only my two cents, now I have nothing left.

Thanks for asking Jo! I have been sick for nearly a month now. I went to message therapy and the chiropractor today. I feel much better today. I actually got a LOT of stuff done on the Weekender today thanks to the doc's. I finally had the doc take some x-rays. Those showed that I have a vertibrate out of alignment, big time. I actually showed him before he showed me on the x-ray! Anyway, I am feeling better tonight.. now we will see if I can sleep! I haven't been able to catch more than two hour at a time for over a month! Uh oh, I just felt some epoxy in my limited hair! To me taha is a good thing, though my hair might not think so. This is the long story cut short (right). Glad to be back in the building world. Hey Jo.... this is my pace right now.....
