what are pinrails and pins used for?

I would think a 20 or 22 would be more appropriate for the type of sailing you might get into.... Instead of north how about launching somewhere up the coast and heading south? - Edward

Saturday I made it out to the Cama Beach @ Camano Island "Small Boats Saturady" which was a lot of fun. Thanks go out to, Randy Jones who was kind enough to invite me to the event, and take me for a ride in his CS17 hull #157 which many of you have seen photos of built by Jan Nicoliasen. I learned some anchoring techniques under sail, and how to sail a cat-ketch. I enjoyed the ride and got some ideas for improvements on my boat under construction. Some things I'm looking are: 1) on the forward seat bringing it aft, and slightly longer to make it more comfortable to sit against the forward deck. 2) Lengthening the booms to be able to better adjust the sail. 3) Instead of fixed cam cleats, having Hobie Cat style rotating cleats. 4) Not using the flush forward hatch I had planned on as getting it leak proof is hard. Optionally: 1) I'm going to look into either doing a hatch in the after part of the forward deck or removing the middle of it and bracing around. It would be nice to not have to climb on the deck for adjusting forward mast/sails or playing with anchor.

This place sucks... All the bases that have marinas and rent sailboats are pulling them for the winter. I guess these people don't believe in cold weather sailing. Everyone here in silverdale is talking about snow.

I've had experience with big boats... This boat has a mini keel, and then the drop down centerboard... It sort of reminds me of the 2008 trailer-able hunter 25' but with a drop-down centerboard included (which would have improved everything on the hunter).

I know this topic has been discussed before, but I've been offered a Beachcomber 25' in good shape, decent sails, new rigging and rails, etc for a grand. Inboard diesel... In a previous posts some concerns where expressed over the way the masts roll and the wishbone hooked up. Any thoughts on this boat? I was thinking it might be a good family boat, I like the way the sails roll up, and the masts seemed pretty easy to step in, and going all the way down into the boat adds some safety strength to the masts. Does anyone have any experience with this boat? I'm thinking this is a good opportunity that I should jump at. V/R, Edward

Had some friends over today and flipped the hull to work on the bottom... In the process had to drill out some busted screws that had held the inner keel while epoxying... On the good side, discovered with the hole drilled that my job of planing the inner keel to fit was a very close match, with almost no filler gap in-between.

Length, but the measurements all match properly... The photo above pretty much explains it...

I've been out on center console's a couple of times when it was nice having a fold up windscreen or a fixed one.. It improves your visibility in bad weather due to not having wind or spray in face at high speed.

I'm almost 4 1/4" inches short on the centerboard in the trunk.. However, I've checked measurements and everything is correct on both trunk and centerboard. Do other people have this issue?? I have looked at the photos on the cd and it shows the centerboards fitting exactly. V/R, Edward

Both boats look great!! I did read a review about the PT Skiff in a Epoxy Magazine.. The only thing that looked really good was the kit featured at http://ptwatercraft.com/ptwatercraft/PT_SKIFF.html had a decent price including everything and epoxy. For people wanting to save a lot of work and shopping around for materials this isn't a bad deal.. Other then that the Eco 18 seems to have better handling. Now if we could take the windshield off the PB and put it on the Eco 18...

On the centerboard plans for corners it has a 5" on one, and another that is 3" or something.. Is this referring to radius or diameter to make the corner?

What kind of wood do you use for the top part of the centerboard?? The photos and plans make is loot like a single piece and I am thinking I need to laminate something then plane it down to 1.25" for it.

Someone should take you up on the tooth pick idea! It would be fun to see a toothpick laminated rudder handle or something

I am a IDIOT!! I was ripping 1x8's to 1.25"...... I guess I could keep on doing this and laminate more boards in.

Is the centerboard supposed to be 3/4" thick or 1 1/4"? The plans are confusing and looking at photos of others it looks like they are all different.. I have cut about 10 of the pieces I need to far for 1 1./4" thick.

I don't see plans on the website for a 28??

The flipping was confusing me.. I was looking at photos on the CD that came with the plan, then back at the description and going how am I going to flip with out making this out of whack size wise.. Thanks, Edward

Not sure from the plans but what is the centerboard width? 1 1/4" x???? on the ripped boards?? The alternating this is screwing me up because I'm thinking the ripped boards are rectangular shaped...

It was finally warm enough to do some epoxying today and install the keel batten. Yesterday I epoxied the aft bulkhead in place but after 24 hours it had barely set... I still might be waiting a day or two for the keel to set. Later, Edward

The plans are not really specific regarding the mast as to what lengths each different size of aluminum should be that make it up. Any thoughts? Second question, Graham had mentioned using 10ounch cloth on the bottom and 6 on the sides... I've read some people just use 6 on everything... Any experts in this field or personal experience?
