There is another Zirlott built Biloxi Schooner in Mobile on Dog River named the Jousha is a sister to the DWC both 70 ft or so. and lets not forget Biloxi, MS has two the Mike Sekul, and the Glenn L. Sweatman. My plans for my bigger boat are based on the Biloxi Schooner also, will be about 30 ft LOD 10 ft beam. Cap'n Trey

I wasn't extending the keel to help with stability, but to compensate for the fact that by adding another mast and sail, the center of force from the sails on the hull will also be shifted aft therefore shift the 'pivot point' aft as well. Ya see what I'm saying? :oops: yep a Yankee

I'm not sure yet Craig, most likely I won't know until I get the rig completed and measure to start sewing up the sails, if I were to venture a guess it would be a little more than twice the area of the standard Weekender.

Any one know how much 1 inch thick steel plate weighs per square foot? What ya say Mates, Cap'n Trey

You may very well be correct about the keel, I am using the Weekender as a prototype to try different ideas to be incorporated into my own design for a larger schooner that I plan to build. I am by no means a naval architect but it seems the keel and sail plan should be balanced, therefore more masts and sails more keel to balance. Which ever way the things that work go into the design and the things that don't get redesigned until they do. I have done all my mods so far the only way I know how, plan it out, draw it, build it to fit whats actually there. If it still looks like it will work give it a try! It works for me, Cap'n Trey

Wow thanks for all the info, I never can remember all those formulas! I'll have to figure on more weight than I had originally guessed. Or go with only enough weight to offset the added sail area of the schooner rig. To get as much hull in the water as I had planned would make the dang thing too heavy for easy trailering. I think I'll start at around 400# and work up or down from there. thanks for the info Cap'n Trey

How much did the draft increase with the 260# you added? On my slightly elongated Weekender I would like to have about 3 or 4 more inches, I am guesstamating approx 300 - 350 #s What you say Mate? Cap'n Trey

I'm going to stick with the length as it is, any longer and the stern comes to a point. My nephew has loaned me a trailer to use since mine is totaled, and it is huge so no problem trailering it. I will have to figure out a way to fold both masts with out excessive over hang, the trailer is so big I might just remove the aft mast at the hinge and store on the trailer. I know I will shorten the cabin to half its length, I never go in there so I though I'd use the space for more seating and a bridge deck at the main mast. Cap'n Trey

Stuart, How are you doing on your schooner variant of the Weekender? Nokoni has been in Dry Dock since axle broke on trailer, so I started with some more mods that I've been wanting to try, I am seriously considering converting to a schooner rig while doing the mods. I had that problem for awhile after I installed Norton Internet Security on my system. it turned out that the settings of the above mentioned software were not allowing the images to load, it thought they were pop ups and was blocking them. I re-configured my Norton settings and problem went away. You might check to see if your firewall is blocking the images on your computer. Hope this helps. Cap'n Trey
