I was out in the bay the other day with my vacationer. the wind build up to about 30 knots. needless to say with all the sail up and by myself it was a little dangerous. I would like to put weight on my keel and was wondering if anyone experimented with that.
Hello everyone
Well what a day we had yesterday. The launch of the d'Louise went off without a hitch. She sailed perfectly and effortlessly. We had 10 to 12 mile an hour winds. I couldn't have ask for a better day.If anyone is thinking of building a vacationer think no more just start building. She's more then I ever imagined she was.
My father is dying of cancer and has been anxiosly waiting for this day. I was able to take him for a ride. What a great time he had and he couldn't stop talking about it.
There are some new pictures at www.msnusers.com/dlouiseprogress
Hi Everyone
Well it looks like the 4th is the big day. We will finally see if she floats. Here are a couple of pictures. Hopefully I'll have some good shots of maiden voyage.
Tom let me know when yours is finished so we can plan a day of sailing. Its been two years .August of 03 since I started the creation of the D'Louise. I'm almost sad its over its been a blast. I enjoyed the pictures you have on your web site. your coming right along as well.
Hi Tom
I was on your web sight the other nite. youv'e got some realy good pictures. After we get them both wet we'll have to meet half way. I am shooting for July 1st. Theres a lot of little loose end jobs to do yet. I've injoyed building her so much i think it's going to be a sad day when shes finally done.
Hi All
My sister inlaw was telling a client of hers about the vacationer that I'm building and that I'm getting close to launch time.He told her to tell me that at launch the first time I'll have to have a righting moment. Maybe I'm
dumb. What is he talking about. The only thing I can come up with is that he thinks I'm building a much smaller boat and should make sure I can right her if she capsizes.Anyone have any input.
Thank you much for all your input. My boards are 2" wide 3/8"deep. My plan is to install the teak with 1/8" space between and fill with blk caulk. I raised the floor in the cockpit before I put the seats in so the water would drain out better.I put a sump pump inside the bench where you climb into the cabin and a hose going out the side of the boat.
Barry if you get the sarasota area again I sure hope you'll look me up. id love to meet you. I am hoping to have the D' Louise in the water by the end of July. That will be the second anniversary since I started building her.
Good evening
I am planing on putting teak flooring in the cockpit. I was wondering if any of you fellow boat builders have had any experience with teak flooring. Can the teak be butted up against each other and is it ok to glue the pieces down. If its glued down do you have to allow for expansion.
Hi all
Its been a while since I was on the forum. I finally got started working on my vacationer again after an extended sickness.
I am ready to put the no skid surface on the deck and was wondering if anyone new where the best place is to buy crushed walnut shells.
Hi All
I live in Sarasota and own a store in Naples, so I go right thru Port charlott all the time. I'll be glad to look up the address and see if all is well with Paul. Give Me a few days I'll get back with you.
