  1. I found this power file from Harbor Freight worked great for me in tight places http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=92158 Gregg
  2. Good to see you back. If you find yourself in Louisville drop me a line. I'll show you my Weekender. The 38th annual Captain's Quarters Regatta, is just around the corner September 25, 26, 27, 2009. I will have my boat in the water for the festivities if I can find an open spot. http://saillouisville.org/regattas/captainquarters/index.html Gregg
  3. I think we all have trouble the first time out. I know I sure did. Guess that is what a shakedown cruise is all about. Congratulations! Gregg
  4. Jeff I think you had a much rougher time of it than I did on the water. That is quite the hole in your boat. I'm glad you and the boat made it back safe. To your question both motors are fine. The gas motor only lost it's handle. At the time I thought the pull rope had broke off and went back into the motor. As for the damage to the rudder box you can see the epoxy patch already in place just a little paint and she is ready to go.
  5. Frank that was the problem I was having too. Only able to get one good ring. Guess were in the same boat Gregg
  6. This must be the week for sailing stories. On July 25th the local cruising club was putting on their 2nd annual
  7. Hello All, I wanted to ask Frank about the bell mounted on his mast. I have one, however I was having trouble making it ring properly from the cockpit. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Gregg
  8. Here's an RV that floats. If it just had a sail. http://www.terrawind.com/terrawind.htm Gregg
  9. Beautiful boat, I like the blue and white together ;D. Looks great! Gregg
  10. Thanks everyone. I can't wait to go out again. Gregg
  11. Temptress is launched at Deam lake in southern IN. She did fine floated straight no leaks. I did however have some trouble. The motor stopped, poor wiring on my part. I repaired that this morning. And my jib line was twisting and causing me tacking problems. The rope I am using is from R&W rigging, it is a synthetic hemp. Looks great on the boat but I may change that one line so it can run through the blocks easier. This was my wife's first real sailing experience, although we had some problems I think she may go out with me again. Thanks to everyone for all the help and support over the past two and a half years. I may not have finished if it were not for you folks on this site. Thanks Gregg

    Almost ready

    Almost ready

I think 2 or 3 weeks and I might be ready to get her wet. Gregg
  14. Thanks everyone for the information. I plan to re-attach the foot I cut off the bottom of the mast and use epoxy in the holes for the spreader. I will post pictures of the boat as soon as I can get her out of the garage. Thanks again Gregg
  15. Thanks, I know many people have spreaders just like this one on their boat. On your shrouds, how is yours set up? Is there one thimble at the top? Or do you separate them at the spreader with two thimbles? Thanks, Gregg
  16. Hey everybody, Just had my chain plates and spreader made by the metal shop that is just around the corner from my house. Both designs I found on this board so, Thank You to those who posted the drawings. Here is a link to the photos, I hope it works. http://www.messing-about.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10794/thumb_chainplatesphoto.gif and http://www.messing-about.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10794/thumb_spreaderphoto.gif I am worried about the spreader after I found a post where someone split their mast due to the stress of three or four bolts in line. My mast is laminated from 4 pieces. Another post I read suggested that a taller mast solved the problem of the gaff jaws hitting shrouds. I cut a foot off my mast when I made it perhaps I could reattach it at the bottom with mending plates and raise my mast to 16' 1". Also in the plans for the weekender it appears to use only one wire thimble at the top of the mast for two chain plates at the bottom, is that the way to do it or should I separate them at the top with two thimbles? Thanks in advance everyone. Gregg Hope to launch by June?
  17. I love the look of my Weekender however I found this boat on George Buehler's site http://www.georgebuehler.com/Stuart%20Little.html The boat is called Stuart Little and looks a bit like the Weekender. Although much heavier. Gregg
  18. I found a good source for some wood here in KY. Look in your area for a Company doing custom architectural millwork work for homes, office etc. They had the southern yellow pine I bought for my mast and spars in stock. They can get just about anything kind of wood you want. It is bought rough, then dressed out at the factory. Make friends with the right person there because they always have lots of scrap, which they take home and burn through the winter I am told. I have a stack of walnut from them 4 foot tall. Not enough to make a boat, but enough to make other things for the boat. Good Luck Almost done Weekender builder, Gregg
  19. I had planned on bending the chain plate around the rub rail. But I felt it would put to much strain on the rail itself? Now I am faced with drilling through my varnished rails, ouch. Almost Done. Gregg
  20. Thanks Barry that's what I thought.
  21. I am in the final run to finish my brightwork and we are expecting rain here tomorrow. My question is can I continue to varnish inside my garage or front porch? Don't want to mess up that finish, to much work. Thanks in advance. Gregg Almost done Weekender This picture is about 3 weeks old
  22. Thank you both for the information. Gregg
  23. Greg, Give them a call, they do custom kits I think. 800-348-2769 Toll free Gregg
  24. Greg, I made my own sails as well. It was not at all hard except that I had never made sails before, and did not know anything about the parts I was sewing. It was fun. Sailrite is where I bought my kit. I saved at least $450.00 doing it myself. It only took about a week working a few hours a night. Sailrite also is very helpful when you have trouble. Best of luck. Gregg
  25. I tried to figure it out and I think I have a good idea. But why not ask does anyone know how many sq ft is a weekenders deck, & hull including bottom is? Also if you have the sq ft. separate that would be great as I am painting the deck a different color. It would help with my paint purchase. Any rough idea would be fine. Thanks everyone. Gregg
