Is anyone else having trouble getting on to B & B 's website. I haven't been able to load it up for two days. Hey Scot, how about some updates on B3. Yesterday we went out and bought one of those 'carports'. Steel Frames 6m x 3m with that woven plastic fabric cover and it has zip off sides as well. This will allow me to fabricate in the shed then assemble in the driveway under cover and out of the weather. BUT FIRST I MUST FINISH THE KITCHEN

Sitting here reading the raves about the Fein Multimaster, I thought "that sounds like a handy gadget - I'd better have a look at one of these". Waiting for the link to their site to load up I thought "Hang on, that name sound familiar" and blow me down if there isn't one already resident in the shed ! I have really only used it as a detail sander and fine or rough it really works well. The oscillations don't rattle your teeth like the cheaper one do. I last used it on the gunwales on the Row 13 just before Xmas. I'll pull it out when I gat home and have a play with the cutter. [attachment over 4 years old deleted by admin]

Tom, I must admit that I am pleased about the price on the Pacific Maple ply. I was expecting the ply to cost about $3000 AUD and now appears it will be just over $1300 delivered to my door ! The ply on my rowboat was from Mister Ply & Wood and I think it had an A side & a B side. There were a few voids on the B side but generally the grain was very nice. It was from Fiji I think. Graham & Tom Thanks for your comments and I also asked for a bit more info on the Pacific Maple and how it compared in weight to the gaboon. Here is their reply. Hi John 1. The weight of Pac Maple is only slightly greater than Gaboon: 6 mm 9 kg cf 8.5 kg 9 mm 13.5 cf 13 kg 2. It is a premium plywood, A grade faces, free of all flaws. (We would not sell it if it was in any way inferior !) 3. Sheets sizes are 8x4, 2440x1220 The supplier is Boat Craft Pacific from Queensland (they manufacture BoteCote epoxy resins and a range of other marine products).

I am getting ready to order the plywood for Belhaven # 9. My supplier in Australia tells me that "Good quality Gaboon is no longer available, we have been supplying Pacific Maple for a long time now instead, it is outstanding quality, and far less expensive. Sheet weights are 10 kg for 6 mm, 13.5 for 9 mm sheets. The cost will be 5 x 9 mm sheets $352.10 (US $264 approx) 18x 6 mm sheets $805.14 (US $604 approx) Delivery $78.00 (end quote) I have been trying to find out the comparitive weight of gabboon ply. Can anyone help with the weight of 1/4" & 3/8" and or any comments about the merits of either. The 13' rowing boat I have just finished was Pacific Maple (from Fiji ) I think. Does anybody have any links to sites where I can learn how to sharpen planes and chisels properly. It is a long time since woodwork lessons at school.

When I had my small furniture shop my tool repair man recommended a Festo to replace an English unit that hadn't lasted 12 months. The Festo was only slightly dearer but so much better. It was lighter, more powerful, much smoother in operation. I guess it all depends how much you plan to use the item in question.

I read somewhere recently that empty inflated bladders from wine casks worked well as a floatation aid. The good part is that you have to empty them before they are able to be used.

The plans arrived in Sydney on the 23rd after taking only 6 days since ordering. I caught Graham just before he & Carla left for the west coast. The plans seem to be very well done and I can't wait to get started but before I tell 'She Who Must Be Obeyed' I think I had better finish the kitchen.

Scott the idea of practising makes sense. I'll try a jig of some sort and let you know how I go. All the best for Xmas and the New Year

Are the ply panels scarfed or butt joined. I finally took the plunge and yesterday ordered a set of plans for The Bellhaven. Despite searching the web I haven't been able to find anything that will suit my boating plans nearly as well. Would anyone have an approx materials list yet.

It sure is coming along nicely Scott. Keep up the good work.
