Hi Jeff,  in preparation for my VARDO order to arrive, I would like to start hunting for clear WRC for gunwhales, keelson and stringers.  Could you please let me know some of the specific sizes, so I can be getting ready.  I have built one SOF kayak in a class setting, and am excited about building a VARDO in my basement.  Thanks,

You can look at the box stores and find WRC in wider widths 6" or 8" and rip and scarf.  In Houston, I went to the hardwoods speciality store and priced WRC -- 4/4 x 6" clear (almost zero knots) x 10' was priced at $36.  It was a full 4-quarter (1" thick) not the 3/4" you find in dimensioned lumber.  Information supplied as reference only.  I'm scarfing my stringers out of recycled redwood from a neighbor's backyard playstation.

You don't have to look in big box stores.  You can look for real full service lumber yards too.  They actually know something about wood.

Finished sizes are 1 1/2" x 5/8 for the gunwales.  Stringers are 1 x 5/8".
