Spinnaker55
My first boat building error my Hull number will be 93 not 98. I am sure it is not my last. Is there any advantage to building with Luan over Okume. I plan to keep my brightwork limited, for maintenance sake, and I hate to cover beautiful wood if there is another alternative. Gordy Hill
George, Use okume. When you finish, and look back on all the work you have invested, don't be sitting there wishing you had gone with the good stuff. It's worth every penny of the difference.. Gordy Hill
I think Ray is right. Meranti is supposed to be excellent. Check with Graham. I believe meranti is heavier. I would imagine Spindrifts have been built with both.
Pat Kelly
I just looked and saw that I paid less than $45 per sheet of BS1088 okoume 6mm (1/4"). It was 2 years ago and I did pay freight to have it shipped to my house but for all the ply for my CS 20 (15 sheets total) the freight was only about $14 a sheet. I found them online at MacBeath Hardwood. Macbeath.com. Pat
Spinnaker55
Thanks for everyone's advice. Okume it is for my cs17. I still have to figure out where to build, but I am working on it. I am also rethinking the painted deck, may I will go bright. Geo
Terry Dunn
You might try Edensaw. I bought okoume 6mm and doug fir 3/8" for my CS20 from Edensaw. I think Joe used Meranti from Edensaw for his CS20 for about $300 less than I paid. www.edensaw.com Terry
