Clear vinyl covering

Can you cover one of the wood framed kayaks in vinyl? I like the looks of the clear skin. What type of vinyl would you use?

I see them on the internet and all I saw mentioned was minimum 12 mil.   They are kinda cool.  One forum I found someone named Kudzu was asking, I think it was an older thread, but if it is the Kudzu we know maybe he will fess up on here.

Clear vinyl is extremely cool looking and extremely impractical. You REALLY have to baby it. There is very little strength in it. 

 

I don't remember asking about it Paul but no doubt I did. It is so cool looking. You can pick up the vinyl at Wal Mart.

Thank you for the info. I think I will pass on the vinyl idea , don't want everyone calling my boat the Wal mart boat. I don't like the idea of swimming either. I am sure I would put a hole in it the first time out.

I've read it makes your boat into a greenhouse and is very easy to puncture. It might make a good demo boat for Jeff.

Didn't think of that ,could get a nice tan on my legs. Or sun burn.

They fog up quick from the sweat and/or any water that gets inside.  I thought about building one as a demo but I did the half skinned boat instead.

Yep, half-skinned is way better than vinyl covered.

I've done it in 20ml  to test a prototype before investing in polyester.  Wouldn't again. Its a lot of work and could have been more easily tested with a heavy duty 'saran' wrap (lots of hdsw!) and duct tape. Clear poly aside from having little puncture resistance stretches with the lightest touch. The only slack skin I would deem cool would be on those Chinese dogs.
