Spindrift 11n Tiller Length

Two years ago I built a Spindrift 11n and have used it as a tender for my Yacht. At the time I meant to make it into sailing dinghy too and fitted the centre board case etc, but somehow never got around to finishing the spars. Luckily I did buy the wood and cut pretty much everything ready to manufacture though.

 

Last week I came to finish the job and dragged out my 1/2 finished rudder, unpainted centre board and part completed spars...but I couldn't find my tiller anywhere. 

 

I had a dig around for my plans, but there is no sign...I put them somewhere safe (and they will turn up one day!).

 

In the meantime can anyone tell me the length of the tiller specified on the plans on the Spindrift 11n. Its the last piece in lovingly constructed saling dinghy!

It's 838 mm, if Im getting it right. Also, 50 mm wide (about 1/3 from the aft end) and 25 mm wide at the tip, and 25 mm 3rd dimension. But there is much more on that sheet, so perhaps you should try to find/borrow it.

On an unrelated note, does anyone know if the Hull construction plan is the same as the Hull assembly sheet? And, even more importantly, what is in the Construction details sheet? I am asking because I don't have these two. Not implying that they were not sent to me, i may well have put them somewhere safe, just like Dave.

The Hull Assembly sheet for my 9N plans is a double page with sketches and descriptions.  It is a how to page.  I have no Construction details sheet.  I have an interior construction plan which is a double page with scale drawings, measurements and all such detials necessary to build bulkheads, flotation seat/tanks, etc.. I hope this helps.

The tiller is the one area where I took some liberties. I laminated up some 1/8 inch thick pieces over a gently curved length of ply to make mine. Similar to this... http://www.roguepaddler.com/cs20g.htm  at the bottom of the page. I wanted a comfortable length for me when gentle sailing and added an extension to be used when necessary. I'm very tall so mine may be a bit shorter that you would want. The plan calls for 33" length x 2" wide tapering to 1" wide at the grip.

mat = mast, c should have been attached to the est with an apostrophe (c'est = it is).

 

voile au tiers = lugsail.

 

So, he originally said: On my spindrift 11n, I built the tiller so that it was easy. I don't remember the length, but look at the pictures in the blog and you'll get an idea.

 

Then: The sail is a lugsail, because it is pretty, and most importantly because the mast is very short, and is much easier to stow on my sailboat.

Not if you don't know the language at all it doesn't.  It isn't a perfect program, but it gets better all the time.  I "meet" people from all over the world on line and Google Translate allows me to communicate with them when other wise it would be impossible.  I can live with it's flaws, it is better than not communicating.

You should have 13 sheets for a S11n metric.

 

The construction detail sheet is only in the non nesting plan. Some of the details on this sheet are on the Keel Gunwale sheet and the other details are not relevant for the nesting version. Hull Assembly sheet is included in the nesting plans.

 

There is no Hull Construction sheet. There is an Interior Construction sheet.
