Front Mast Step

Well, after taking off for the summer and some I finally started to work on my Core Sound 17 again. I'm installing the front mast step and I can't figure-out where it goes relative to the distance between the top of the step and the bottom (or top) of the king blank that the mast comes through. I assume this makes a difference since it will effect the overall hieght of the mast? Can anyone help?

The drawings I have seem clear enough. It appears the step slam forward in the bow and as low as can be and still have a platform for the mast & mast tube. Exact position would be set by dialing in mast rake through the king plank hole - I think mast rake is 3 degrees.

Yes, what you say is true, and maybe it does not matter, but the side view shows the mast tube aft of the middle of the step and the small top view shows it in the middle. This can vry the step hieght by around an inch. Again. maybe it does not matter, but I figured I'd rather ask now, than make a mistake.

I too found the plans pretty clear on the location of the step. If your hull is plumb and level, it's a simple thing, if not do so before cutting the hole in the king plank. The plans also tell you how high the bow and transom corners are when she's level. It can make life a lot easier and the use a of a laser or other level is possible.

I made the mast tube longer then necessary, and a piece of cardboard on bottom to figure out the proper position, then cut extra off above king board. I also used a couple different angle tools to verify proper rake for 3 degrees on mast. With one clamp holding tube on side you should be able to play around/wiggle with this until you get it right. I used a sharpie to trace on inner hull where bottom board was going to be.
