Kudzu Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Typically yes, but if it really warm I have put them on after 12-14 hours. No problems so far, but it is always better to follow the instructions. To many hours in it to get in a hurry at this point and mess up. The river will be there. Quote
Hirilonde Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 If just doing 2 coats doing the 2nd one a little earlier will not hurt, but the well cured time will not be shortened any. Just because paint is dry enough to add another coat does not mean it is fully cured and hard. For most oil based paints that takes days after you are done. For those first days after painting the kayak is usable, but the paint is more prone to scratching/scuffing up. And if you re-coat too fast for 3 or more coats, you are covering up partially cured paint and sealing it off so that it now takes many more days to properly dry and cure, and possibly to the point of it never curing properly. To many hours in it to get in a hurry at this point and mess up. Quote
