I did good progress but when I went to do the notch at the top of the stem the plan Call to do the 3/8" recess 21 inches back of the front tip of the stem and for some reason I only got 22-1/2"

So Instead I did the notch 6-3/4" from the back of the stem. will this affect when it put the bowsprit?

I am still confuse on how it happen :?

Dennis, don't frett about it. We waited until we set the deck on our Vacationer before we cut the notch. Plans called for 6" (I think) and we ended up with a notch of 5". You will probably have to make the notch longer or fill in some of it when you set your deck. This is usually caused by a slight variation in the angle of the stem to the keel when you glued it up. This is one of the toughest angles to hold in the building process and the one that most of us missed by a degree or two.Align the deck to your bulkheads and the transom and then adjust the notch as needed.

This should not affect your bowsprit. One inch short or long won't make a great deal of differrance.

Don't sweat it and keep making sawdust.

Ther way I am reading this, you are OK. If anything, you may need to cut the rabbit a little bit more (towards the bow) when the time comes to aplly hte deck.

As has been said before, don't sweat it too much! It will turn out great when it is all done. As far as how this affects the bow sprit; I don't see this as a problem as this joint has no relavance to the placement of the sprit.

when I attached the deck for the first time I pulled it as tight as possible (with the help of someone over at the time) and I glued and screwed it in. I forgot about the notch. My foreward bulkhead wasn't lined up (this ended up being due to the warp in the bottom plywood piece). Anyway I unscrewed the deck and had to more or less rip it out of place (a ply or two remained on the stem). A little later, after reading ahead (ALWAYS READ AHEAD!, and carfully study the diagrams ahead) I saw that diagram, I reattched the deck at the right spot (I wasn't off more than at most 1/2"), but of course I cut no notch again. hopefuly I will figure out something to make my bowspirit structually sound. I do hope to attach a small figurehead (I am running out of time for that, I am going to have a Memorial day launch date come hell or high water!) Good luck, keep up on your progress.

Indeed, making a 3/8" strip is probably the easiest and thats probably what I am going to do. I can dedicated probably at least 1-5 hours a day on a weekday (and more or less have been doing that for about 60 days) and a longer amount on the weekend. I also have a contractor neighbor and a bunch of friends that come over at a moments notice when help is needed. Today I worked on the bits for the bowspirit (I will go back to working once I am done with this post), I cut the access hole in the lazaratte, and I made the sides for the hatch box. In terms of larger things I have the cabin trunk stringers cut, and the plywood piece with the major curve has been held in place with clamps. The mast box is finished, the bottom edge of the stringers have been calked. Behind the lazaratte and the foreward compartment already have a coat of paint (except for the sides). And the sides, the two forward peices are on dry by a few screws, I am waiting for my neighbor to help me make the transistion at the bow more or less perfect (he has a cordless circ. saw that can cut a sharper angle than what I have). I have a few other minor things done of course, but that is more or less my current progress.
