I will be mounting a brass keel plate when all drys and sets for a few days. The brass is 3/16ths by 1 inch wide and runs the full 17 feet of the keel. I will have to drill out the attachment points but the brass I pre-drilled to off set from the keel screws at about every 7 inches. Plan is to drill holes for the screws, fill with oil based paint and install the screws. Once dry I'll go back and put a coat of epoxy over the screws.

Are you saying that after you install the keel chafe "plate" you will epoxy over the screws that fasten it? If so, then I have to ask why? Taking precautions with the holes, even if people disagree on how to do it exactly is a good idea. But I don't understand how the epoxy helps.

I used a bronze half oval on the keel of my Spindrift. I bedded the whole thing, and therefore filled and hence sealed the screw holes in the process, with Sikaflex 291-LOT . She spent an entire season (6 months) in the water one year at the dinghy dock where I keep my Renegade. Still no signs of any problems after 5 years total.
