I used to follow the AC races closely until they went to the left coast and the boats looked less and less like boats. The last couple have been more fun since the whole craziness went down under. It's fun to root for the New Zealanders because they are really a maritime nation and care a whole lot about the races. My husband just got to Christchurch on the South Island today for part of his sabbatical and he already has listened to AC controversy. I'm hoping he can pass on a bit of local point of view. Here's hoping the boats hold together so they can have more good races like #2. Who are you cheering for? Quote

Things are going from bad to worse, how can Russell coutts live with himself, A so called New Zealander taking the cup off New Zealand? A bitter pill indeed. Mind you I'm always available to go and sail the thing myself, but so far I haven't had the call up. Funny that. I'm just praying its not 5 nil! Quote

That first race was the result of never really have raced the boat and checking the hardware or the hull. It seems to have a few little designs things that the boat will have problems in certain conditions. The second and third races really do show that not having a defender series is not the best thing to do. I know there are not the money's for New Zealand to mount a second challenge to defend the cup. Practice is just that practice, it is no substitute for the real thing. As to who wins I have thought that now that America seems not to be able to mount a strong challenge having the cup move around the world would be a good thing. Having another country dominate for 100 years is not the best thing for the cup and for the interest in the cup. Oh the Swiss if the win would have to have the races in a sea. Being land locked it would most likely be in the Med. Which would be fine. Paul J Quote
buck Posted February 19, 2003 Posted February 19, 2003 Definitly not fine Paul, at least as far as we're concerned but things are'nt looking good at 3 nil. I don't know, "Patrotism might be the last postion to which a scoundral might cling" (as Bob Dylan once said) but really having this precious cup taken off us by another New Zealander is very hard pill to swallow. I think not having a defender series was a serious mistake, but I don't beleive the money was there, I think 4 million people could only afford one shot. I think the Swiss should be made to have it on Lake Geneva myself, add to the ludicrous situation! Quote
