capt jake Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Thanks for posting these links. It is nice to be able to go back to those shows again. Wooden Boat Festival 2005 (notice the Weekender) Don't let him hear you call it a Weekender! Even though it truely is (while being stretched a bit) he is VERY insistant that it is NOT a Weekender. I agree with you, it IS a WE. Quote
Barry Pyeatt Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Yup! Totally insistent that it is a custom design and build. At any rate he did a really nice job on it. Lots of nice Trim out touches and mods to the finishing from the design and a tiller rather than a wheel. Unfortunatly I understand he lost if off the trailer and it suffered quite a bit of damage. Hope he repairs it and comes back, it generated quite a bit of interest. The Port Townsend show brings some really interesting craft and is a blast to sit onshore and watch them all parading back and forth. Lots of public interest and many fine workshops and seminars to attend. Truly one of the Great Places and Wooden Boat shows to attend. Quote
capt jake Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Yes, it is truely a beautiful boat for sure. From the 2005 PT festival, which is what he videos are from I believe. Quote
barryhill Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 When I asked, "Is it a Weekender?" he replied, "I took the lines for the hull and threw away the plans". Quote
capt jake Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 barryhill, looks like you were there the same day as me. I remember that little tender and the guy in it. Quote
barryhill Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 jake, the guy in the dinghy is the owner. not real talkative but i'm a hard guy to say no to when it comes to yakking! We had moved the youngest to Kirkland the weekend before. Drove a U-Haul from San Diego and came home to Wisconsin on the train. Our time in Port Townsend was limited to about three hours by public transportation. Fun though. Wife got her first ferry ride. Hope to make a trip out this summer and bring along the Bolger Teal I finally got started in the basement. Good time to work inside. Over a foot of snow since Friday night. Quote
capt jake Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Seattle-ish... Kinda... just dont' them hear you say that. It is accross the water from Seattle, thereby not so Seattleish. ;) Quote
Barry Pyeatt Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 It is a whole different world away from Seattle. Port Townsend is on the NorthEast corner of the Olympic Penninsula. Right where the Eastern end of the Strait of Juan de Fuca meets with Puget Sound. Very little rainfall there. Just south of Victoria BC on the Southeastern tip of Vancouver Island. About 45 miles (Northwest) away from Seattle, Just West of Everett across Whidby Island and two ferry rides from there. It was a major Victorian era shipping and commerce center with lots of ship building being conducted there. Now home to the Wooden Boat Foundation. Lots of boat building activities there, many fine shops, and restored Victorian homes and B& Bs. The bay right infront of the community is wonderful sailing area. Even dodging the ferry boats. Go around Pt. Wilson where the STrait meets the bay and you are into massive amounts of water moving in and out with tidal flows that are impossible to sail in. Even motor in with a kicker except at slack tide. All shipping traffic into the lower Puget Sound goes right past there. Gateway to the San Juan Islands from the Olympic Pennisula. Home to some incredible wooden boats both large and small. Quote
ChrisObee Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 When you live in Ohio anything on the washington coast is seattle-ish. I have a brother that runs a local newspaper, the Port Townsend Leader. I hope to get out there for the wooden boat show. I've heard about the weekend for years. Quote
