For those of you that don't visit the WBF here is a snapshot of the DragonShip design I've been working on. It takes elements from a Friendship Sloop, MelonSeed skif and Duckflat wherry. The LOD is a little over 21'. It has interanal ballest built into the keel and a steel centerboard (kinda like a swing keel on the Balboa 20).

It has been an interesting and long design process. I've just finished the latest weight, LCG & VCG calculations and sent it off to a navel architect who is helping me out of the kindness of his heart. He will do a quick glance at my numbers and see how they work and if all is good I start the working drawings.

BTW the goal of this was to get a Friendship design that had rounded chines and was bigger than the Stevenson designs but yet still be trailarable.

LOA = 23.806'

LOD = 21.3542'

LWL = 16.674'

Beam = 7.576'

Waterline = 1.0625'

Draft (board down) = 4.0625'

LCG = 9.426'

VCG = 3.179'

Displ = 2371 lbs

Lead = 6.43% (sail CE forward of CLR by 1.0729')

I have been in love with the Friendship sloops for years now. It is what first attracted me to the Stevenson designs. I will probably never build a Weekender or Vacationer due to the small interior space, but your design efforts are in line with my thinking too. Thanks for sharing and I hope your efforts become reality soon .

Bud that would be the Balboa 20 (see photo below). It is still in the yard at the house. I've got it pretty well cleaned up and need to start some restoring. I need to get her off of the trailer and inspect the swing keel and than start painting. I still need to get the boom and the sails from the orginal owner. He has them in storage.

Greg, once I get done with the detail drawings on the DragonShip I need to talk with the other two mian guys that have been involved in the design process and see what their thoughts on on selling or realeasing plans.

The displacment is 1700 lbs. I'll keep you in mind when it comes off the trailer. Still trying to figure out the best way to do this.

Not sure if I want to sell it or not. My daughter loves it even though we haven't had it in the water. It is a well designed boat, but it isn't wood and I've got the DragonShip I hope to start building this spring.

Oops sorry. Reckon ya'll knew by now that I can't spell.

BTW Michael is the architect and Bruce is the Free!Ship expert. Without either of these two this project would have never gotten off the ground.

Are you still interested in doing the table of offsets for me when we are ready?

Sure, I'll work out the offsets table for you once you get it to that point. I'll make a scaling page for you as well so you can get offsets for a scaled model at whatever scale you want.

I'm hopeing that this is the last round of calculations and I can start the drawings. I want to be able to include a table of offsets with the plans. In addition I'm going to do a sheet of station molds so you don't have to use the offsets.

keep trying on the calling. seems the phone stays tied up around here all the time. I have a lot of info on balboa 20's and can probably tell you anything you need to know like it's strengths and weaknesses . had mine up from the trailer several times and had to redo the entire front of the keel when it cracked and broke off ( it's cast iron) . but luckily the lifting cable held it until the boat reached the shore. probably was just a fluke or hit a stump? anway I'm still interested . thanks, b bill

Since I own 6 or 7 (does the one sunk in the creek behind the house count?) and many here own more, what is the "legal" limit.
