Spindrift 12 #535 is Finished - Mostly

Attached are a couple of pics of my Spindrift 12, #535, sitting proudly on its trailer as of today. I still need to put together the sailing bits, though the daggerboard and rudder are mostly finished. But it's a boat, and following another thread here, I have an ancient, 1955 Firestone 5 hp outboard for it. There's also a picture of that. The Firestone motor is apparently an rebranded Scott Atwater motor. She looks rough, but after I cleaned and gapped the plugs, and drained and refilled the lower end, she started up on the third pull and runs like a champ. I'm shocked.

Thanks! The trailer is from Harbor Freight. It was about $300. It comes in three boxes! Fortunately I ordered it early since it took a good month or more to get to me. It was back ordered.

Mike, what would you estimate she weighs? Would it be possible for one man to load the boat into the back of a pickup by himself and launch it out of the back of the pickup?

Looks beautiful Mike. It looks like you selected the Sloop rig instead of the Cat. If so, I'd like to know the reasons for the selection. (yea ... I'm giving it some thought (don't tell my wife!!) :shock: )

Look for drainage holes on the trailer ... and keep them clear. That looks like it uses square steel tube for the rails, and trapped water can rot them out from the inside. I had a buddy here who had one that had lasted 8 years because he was kind of a fanatic about keeping the holes in the underside clear and making sure all the water drained out each time.

The boat looks great! The Firestone outboard will look great on that transom too (the Spindrift is one of those classic designs that just looks timeless).

Mike, I also am interested in weight and rig. I'm vacillating between the nesting and non-nesting versions, and between sloop and sprit rigs.

I'd say the boat weighs between 100-150 pounds. It's not really a car topper, but then it's 12 feet long. It is actually a cat rig plan. I know the mast seems set back some, but that's what's shown on the plans. And she's been updated a bit. A little stencil work by my wife added a bit of interest!
