Greg Luckett Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 After a lot of hard work crawling all over the tight spaces in Nellie, the wiring is nearly completed. Just the power wires and the antenna leads for the VHF left to do, and the mounting of the depth sounder transducer. The dual battery system is powering the boat now, and all the nav/steaming lights, cabin lights, instruments, and deck lights are working. The mast is poised to be raised to check out the standing rigging and the boom and main sheet system. All the blocks have been replaced from stem to stearn. There is about another week of fitting out and checking to get the job done. YEE HAW, I can see the splashing coming now. Quote

Greg Luckett Posted July 1, 2006 Author Posted July 1, 2006 SPLASH DAY is finally here. 2-1/2 years of refurbishing (a lot of pondering on what to do too) to have Nellie ready for today. She still needs some work on the interior but she is 90% done. We are loading her with all the safety and CG required gear and double checking the trailer wiring too. Wish us well, please? In all the excitement, the camera got left in the tow vehicle and I did not realize it until we were in the slip about two miles down the river. I will take a pic of her in the slip and post it tomorrow. We plan to sail out on the big lake tomorrow afternoon. That will be another first for us . That Nissan 5HP was plenty of power, but it does not like to idle much. ..it died on us 3 times which led to some "adventure" at the draw bridge and by the dredges and at the concrete jetty at the slip....whew! [/quote'] I have a Nissan 5hp four stroke on my Potter and we had trouble with the idle as well. We took it in for service to one of the factory authorized shops, and the mechanic told us that was extremely common because a lot of technicians adjust the idle in neutral rather than in gear. Not sure if that's the REAL story or not, but the motor runs like a top now, and I can idle all day long. You did a great job on the boat, Greg. Quote
