capt jake Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 Since I have the boat in the water, I thought I would take a few pictures of the trailer for some of you. The vertical uprights REALLY help out on centering the boat on retrieval! Quote
Pipefitter Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 What boat is that for? On power boats, nearly everything now is drive on. I wont be driving my boat on the trailer. Just dont like doing it nor do I care for the washout at the bottom of the ramps we get our trailer wheels hung on now when launching/retrieving. Thats a nice trailer for sure and looks similar to the way mine is set up. I just dont have the uprights nor in my case do I think I will need them. I have built 2 jack perches on mine to lift the boat off the wet carpeted bunks which enables them to be rinsed off and to dry out between uses. Quote
capt jake Posted May 14, 2006 Author Posted May 14, 2006 I should have clarified, sorry. It is for a Weekender. The uprights align the keel and with the tension from the winch, it straightens right out. Uh, no...I don't power it onto the trailer. Quote
Pipefitter Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 Ok,Sorry about that. I have a hard time keeping up with who has what boats and some of you(Oyster) have one for every season and purpose. I am going to build my next trailer out of anodized pipe just to be different. And no,I dont guess you will be driving a sailboat on a trailer atleast without a good run at it. Quote
PAR Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 As a rule it's not a good idea to drive any wooden boat onto a trailer. It should float over, power assisted or other wise, then the trailer should meet it as it's pulled out of the drink. You can pop fasteners, delaminate sheathings, break structural pieces, tear open glue lines, etc. when you drive a boat onto a trailer. If the boat is fitted slightly bow down while on the trailer, the launch and recovery will be much easier. Quote
