Cat designs?

Graham,

I see you have the core sound cat, but have you thought about makeing a "butterfly" style hull of perhaps 16-20 feet? I'd be more interested in spirited cruising and as such, a greater length to beam ratio could be used than on a racer. Most of the camp cruising seems focused on monos, but I could see a few advantages of having a cat in a some situations.

1. Dry out level.

2. Fast with a comfortable motion.

3. Have a regular tent on deck for camp cruising.

4. Use the hulls for stowage.

5. Easy to trailer and good for daysailing too.

I have been thinking about a beach tri a lot since the EC, one that would fit through the bridge filters.

As usual I have a lot of pressing work to do before I can have the luxury of such a project. I think that I could make one work but it would be a much more complex boat to build.

I keep coming back to the fact that a CS17/ CS20 is a pretty good all around boat and is it worth the extra work to do a beach-able tri.

I still have the main hull of my last 20' tri and I get a cool response when I suggest to Carla that I could rework that into a great Everglades Challenger.

Here is a couple of pics of my last 20' tri design. That was a long time ago, there was a lot more testosteron flowing back then.

That mast stood 40' above the deck and beside rotating, I could tilt the rig 15' either of vertical while sailing. She was also hydrofoil assist.
