Jib hanging up on Sprit pole

I am in middle of trying to rig up my sprit pole and also jib sheet (clew-end). I about have the sprit pole set on the mast where it will work well and a line to control its tension, but I am worried about how the jib will transfer from side to side when tacking or jibe is done. The sprit pole over-hangs the mast approx a foot or less as I have tried to minimize this over-hang as much as I can. :? My boat is only 12.5 feet and he jib sail is rather small (12 or 13 sq.ft.). But I am trying to rig her so I can single crew it so want the jib to move smoothly around the mast. Any suggestions :?:

A friend of mine provides the following insight:

"A sprit pole does not need to extend to the bottom of the mast. The snotter can be placed up the mast almost any distance that can be reached in your boat eliminating the issue of the pole in the area of the jib sheets. . "
