Spindrift nesting dinks in SoCal

Greetings to the group. This is my first post, and I am seeking builders in the Orange County region of Southern California. I plan to build either a Spindrift 10N or 11N as a dinghy for my 34' Searrunner trimaran. I would like to look at both sizes before I decide which one I will build. I am on the Anaheim area.

I don't live in CA, so I can't show you the boat.

I built a 10N and have it in LA (Lower Alabama). I am using it as a tender for my 40' Beneteau. The boat fits quite nicely on the foredeck of the big boat and it is a cinch to put it together on the foredeck and launch it as a whole boat.

The 10 is the perfect size for my wife and me. When we have guests (more than 1) on board, we might have to make two trips to shore, but that is rare enough that it is not a problem. It handles three people and supplies with no difficulty and is quite seaworthy. I can get very close to planing the boat with a 2.5 HP Mercury outboard with me alone on board.

If I had it to do over again, I would build the 10N.

Even though you can't show me your 10N, I have seen it via the forum. I read all I could find in the archives on the nesting series, and--of course-- saw your posts and pictures.

You did a gorgeous job on yours.

I hope to physically see one near me here, then make the appropriate choice for my needs.

I would love to make the drive up. There is an outside chance I will be driving to Oregon in early October. Maybe I could hug the coast before getting on that long and boring section of Interstate 5

I already looked through older posts and found your pictures of the 11N. What I have seen has been ver impressive. Have you weighed the dink yet?

What in the heck are you doing in Morro Bay??? I thought you were an "east coast" guy. Did you set something magnetic near your compass? :roll:

I was wondering what had happened to you, since you had not posted in quite a while.

As you can see, we made the move to Alabama and are loving it.

I was cruising on Rosita for awhile keeping my eye out for a job in Florida but it never turned up. I now have a good four year assignment at the Nuclear power plant near Avila Beach. Rosita is in storage in a boatyard in Palmetto, FL. But I'm considering selling her. $10,000 (with high fuel costs) to move her here or four years storage in Florida, neither are good options.

I'm wondering if Graham is up for designing a 30 footer?

Rann, you're welcome anytime but I think I misplaced the centerboard during the move so she isn't ready to sail yet. She does row very well!
