SE Messabout May 13-15, 2005

By popular demand , I'm hosting the third irregular Southeast Messabout starting Friday May 13 through Sunday May 15 at Sweetwater Campground on Lake Allatoona near Atlanta, GA.

I have reserved site 44 and this will serve as the base of operations. I only have room for two more people on my site, though. So if you plan to come, please click on the link above and reserve your own site. The waterfront sites will fill pretty quickly as the weather improves and people start thinking about boating again. So don't wait too long to get yours.

Sweetwater Campground is located on one of the best spots on the lake for sailing. This time of year usually has pretty good winds. It's also a bit too early in the season for the lake to be polluted with our normal crop of summer weekend hullaballoos.

Saturday night we'll have a cooperative group supper. Otherwise there is no schedule or organized events.

So come one and all, and plan on having a good time. I hope to see many of you there.l

If you need a slot filler, John, put me down for one of your vacancies, if you can take an old geezer and his shopmate around you young bucks. It would be great for any of the members here to take the time to venture to this event. Also keep in mind you weekenders, this is a good place to test you boats and test your talltale telling abilities about building and capsizing at some of the past events. I will let those of you lurking about tell of the turn of events that lead you to repainting your boats behind curtains so your neighbors did not know of the episodes.

This sounds like fun. Anyone have a PU truck to help me launch? That RV is too big for the ramps.

I can launch almost anything that will fit on that lake, or up to 6500 lbs on steep grade or around 8,000 on incline as I am assuming that the ramps are user friendly for most boats that will fit on the lake.

Point of note, May 7 is my son's college graduation, for some reason that changes will need to be made to accomadate a bulk of folks not able to venture that way that weeked. But don't let that one date stand in you guys ways if this works out for the majority.

OK if you can manuver the boat for me I'm up for this. Boat and trailer are ~2k lb. The RV is 37ft so you can see why I don't want to go to the ramp with it.

I just took Site 42 and will share it if there is room. I don't have any slides so am only 9' wide. I don't know if Saralee is coming or not. Too soon to tell at this point. I suspect Tom wwould like to go if Sara doesn't so there are 4 places open on that site if the 30' boat trailer doesn't take it all. Or, is there trailer storage otherr then on the camp sites?

John it has been a long time no see. This sounds like fun, I won't be camping but I will be there. You might post this on the BYYB, some of my Southeastern Fleet members might want to attend as our Spring messabout fell apart because of Dave's ill health.

Feel free to post the particulars on BYYB. Are you going to bring Blackberry number 1? I'd sure love to see her again.

As for boats, I'm going to have my 27' pontoon there, as well as a Starfish boardboat (think "Sunfish", our old Mean Mean Green Green OCA whitewater canoe, and a kayak or two. There's already talk of the possiblility of a Chebacco coming down and who knows what else.

Oyster, I'll keep a billet open for you.

John, it will only be the wife and me. My oldest may attempt to come, but he is on his own, as he does not know his duty schedule as of now. I am attempting to get my spritsail ready. But this weather is making that pretty hard. But I will have my Old Town, and or my 14 footer, if nothing else. But barring any unforseen problems with Linda and her situation with her job right now, really not knowing what is taking place, its a go for us. Oh, do you need some money for deposits????? And how is it going with any other ones?

Blackberry needs some work to repair two years of sun, rain and neglect. I had to store her upside down for two years while I worked on my PC. I had to stop using her because I kept turning over every time I got in or out of her.

The hull is finished. I am still working on the spars and rudder.

Now doesn't that just figure. A get together in my neck of the woods and I'm going to be out in Phoenix at my sister's wedding. I'll have to catch y'all another time around.

I just found out that I may only be getting back from a meeting in Europe on that Friday, so I may well be fried when I arrive later that night. I'm trying to get the meeting moved, 'cuz this is set stone!

John, I know I've gone back and forth on whether I can attend, you know being in a new battery and worrying about Annual Training. It is looking possible. I will call you if and when I figure out my schedule.

Mr Moon I am raising my hand. reservations confermed for site #46. I am only bringing a tent to sleep in, can't pull a boat and the trailor both if I come alone I should have room on my site for someone else if needed. Hope to see all your smiling faces on the 13. Y'ALL COME Cap'N Bud. :wink:
