So I'm still measuring and thinking on Charlie Girl II in regard to ballast, floatation, center board and rig. Has anyone tried or measured out a yawl/mizzen rig similar to John Welsford's Pathfinder? Similar length and beam overall, although some real differences in hull form. (You can see Pathfinder's profile and rig on Duckworks in the plans or projects sections)

I'm probably just creating complications, but it's fun... :D

I've owned a few yawls, all were converted from sloops, except one was a cutter originally. I like the rig as you get just about the same performance as a sloop, but have additional hoist options off wind and a great place to hang a hammock too.

On a Vacationer or Weekender (I can't remember which Charlie Girl is) it would technically be a ketch, but it could be done to yawl proportions (smaller mizzen, compared to a ketch). I prefer the looks of a yawl over a ketch too, but that's me and my many old CCA conversions.

As Ray has pointed out, you'll have a weather helm issue, but this could be addressed with a appendage changes (read radical use of a reciprocating saw). A longer sprit and new, larger headsail may also be needed to balance the boat. These are things best worked on paper before you pull out the circular saw.
