bwb Posted October 5, 2004 Posted October 5, 2004 Ricardo, That looks impressive, and I remember that stage well. Take care bending your deck panels over those beams - it's a lot of stress on the ply, and you will need to relieve that stress with some heat. I also found I needed some bracing under the beams down to the hull, and across to the chines to help hold it all still while the deck panels were fitted. I hot melt glued in some cross pieces to achieve it. I notice there are two joins in your panels - does that mean you are building a Grand Diva? Or are you just economising on your ply? Keep it up - the finished kayak is well worth the effort you are going to. Seeing these pictures gets me excited - I can't wait to start my next ones - all four of them!! We are going to have one each - a Grand Diva for me, a standard one for my wife, and when the plans are released, a couple of baby ones for my two boys. Good luck and happy building. Chris. Quote
ricardo Posted October 5, 2004 Posted October 5, 2004 Hi, Chris No, it's not a Grand Diva. The standart measure for ply sheets in Brazil is 2,2 X 1,6 meters. And ,yes, I'm afraid about bending the deck. Bracing the hull to avoid some distortion will be the solution, for sure. The Tropical Cedar plywood I'm using is far stiffer then the Okoume or Fir stuff. I'm going to build two of then.The idea is to sell the second. After doing all the mistakes in the first one...
