PIctures from Robbos Launch

I was lucky enough the weekend before last to attend the formal launch of Robbos weekender Jeroboam, I think he has been a little busy with his work since to make formal announcement on here, so I thought I'd share a few pictures that I took of that day.

As you will see the wind was blowing a fair clip that day, and he was a braver man than I to do his launch in those conditions, but it went off wonderfully, and Jeroboam looked perfect on the water.

So big congrats to Robbo, the third Kiwi Weekender skipper.

Thanks for sharing the splendid action shots. You also join the international group with Ireland launching their first one, too. The best thing is sharing it with this board for all of us to enjoy by cyberspace.

Fantastic Wayne.

Congtrats to Robbo. Now there's a guy with some gronicals. But what really got me...was his wife was out there as well! Good on her.

I love the whole group of images....I let them run as a slide show and it was as good as being there. Great sequence. Great shots. It showed the whole deal. Almost better than video.

Everybody was being patient for Robbo the raise his new spars, bend on his new sails......get the boat in the water...sort everything out.

You could see the gathering of people was great, some looked cold...interested...doubtful.

Getting out for the first time, getting slammed, the jib sheets are not working properly, sorting them out, trying to sail and sort, the wife on the foredeck taking down the jib (wow) and then coming in to sort it out again...back out.

Great stuff.

Robbo is lucky to have a friend with skills like yours Wayne. I am sure he is very happy to have these images.

I am looking forward to sailing with Robbo and Sharon (yes, that is his wife out there on the foredeck), I suspect that they are going to expand my sailing experience vastly as I get talked into going out in conditions that I would otherwise cower from... a process that Buck started earlier in the year... these fine sailors will make me a confident captain yet

Wayne were you in another boat when you took the pics or were they taken from shore?

Good pictures, they show what the Weekender can do and sustain. Just because the boat gets a little heel to her, doesn't mean you have to panic.

Maybe reef, but not get all excited and head for shore.

the pictures were all taken from the shore, I used a digital SLR with a 300mm lens. I personally consider it luck when the pictures come out as nice as this lot.. there was quite a bit of light around that day which made it a lot easier. of course there were quite a few times when Robbo was sailing straight into the sun (or in the direction of the sun anyway) which I don't have pictures of.

also the geography of the area meant that he was probably never more that 800m (0.5 miles?) away.

Finally I get to sit at my computer and add to this string (I feel a little respondsible). Firstly I would like to thank Wayne for all of his support and encouragement he is a wounderful friend. As you have all seen he is also quite adept with the camera. I was very focused on building and launching, it is fantastic that he is able to take that little step back and record the event. If it had been left up to me you probable would have received a post card three weeks from nest Tuesday.

I also must comment on the amount of interest my little JEROBAOM generated. A large number of my friends and colleges as well friends and colleges of my wife Sharon, (That's the chick sorting out the fouled jib sheets) came to be part of my launching. (I suspect that some came in the hope of just seeing me get cold and wet, but that's such an Aussie/Kiwi thing.)

Now than I have launched and seen the interest that has been shown here (Thank's again Wayne It would have taken me forevere to make my report), I truely feel part of the Weekender Club. So many talk about it so few follow it through.

Wayne says he probally would not have gone out in such conditions. I say that I never doubted that I would launch in those conditions. I would probable go for a sail in stronger conditions. The good news is how safe I felt and how much confidence I have in the design. I do have many years experience in sailing small dinghies.

The very next it snowed here in Christchurch and given work and weather constraints I have not been out since. But as soon as I can I'll be there.
