Reaping the Reward

Hi Gang,

The weather was cooperating, so we went out to one of the local lakes to sail yesterday. The wind was blowing about 15 to 20 knots with a gust or two up to 25. The little boat went quite well, but it was weighed down with 230 pounds of me and another 130 pounds of my wife. The lake was full of stinkpotters running around making wakes, so it was pretty rough out there in the middle where all of the wakes came together. :evil: The boat handled the rough water very well.

On top of that, we get a lot of compliments on the boat and how she looks.

When we took the boat apart, I tried to do it in the water. The two halves come apart very easily. In fact, it is a lot easier than taking it apart on land. The only down side is that water came in through the bolt holes in the after section until I moved further aft. I am going to try to assemble the halves while in the water the next time we go out.

Looks like it was a very nice day. That nesting feature is very cool. Anybody comment when you took the boat apart? Is it possable to paddle around in half a boat? Me being me am just thinking of all the jokes I could play being able to split a boat in two and remain afloat :twisted:

I was in the after section when I split it apart. As long as I stayed toward the aft part of that section, things were OK.

Didn't try getting in the forward section, but it might not have the bouyancy the aft section does. :shock:

I got a couple of good comments when I split it. Folks were a little surprised to see two halves. I do some things for the reaction too (Heh, Heh).

Looks like a fun boat! I'm slowed down on mine now that I spend most weekends on Rosita. And its too hot to work on it in the evenings.

But I am looking forward to it being a fun boat to sail.

BTW, how wide are your side seats that you added? Are they wide enough? Do they work well?

I was wondering how you were doing. I hope Alex's visit didn't disturb you too much.

The side seats are made from 1 x 6 mahogany. They work quite well. I can slide my butt forward and back as necessary to optimize trim when I am sailing solo. I like them a lot! I did find out that I have to bolt them down to make sure they don't tilt when I sit on the edge.

The "ready to sail" shot at the top of this thread shows all of the seating in the boat. I also added a seat between the two floatation chamber in the stern sheets for seating when using the boat as a rowboat.
