ltolson Posted July 30, 2004 Author Posted July 30, 2004 Barry I live in the metro Detroit area. Specifically Rochester Hills. The pics were taken at a park about 5 min from the house. Great place to sail . Sailboats and windsurfers mostly. Jet skis not allowed. Thirty min to Lake St. Clair but I'm not confident enough yet to sail big water. Thanks everyone for the compliments. If it is still there making cider and donuts that is. I used to live near W. Maple and Middle Belt. I used to sail on some of the lakes around there too. Mostly on Michigan and Huron and up into Superior on occasion. But that was on larger boats than our Weekenders. Would have loved having a Weekender to sail in the area when I lived there. Just didn't seem to have much time on a daily basis to do that though. Quote
ltolson Posted July 30, 2004 Author Posted July 30, 2004 Yep Stoney Creek. Its one of the reasons I built my Weekender. I can hook up the trailer and be on the water in about 30 min. Unfortunately we had our first drowning there two days ago. Guy was the chase boat for model airplane club. His boat drifted away from shore and he tried to swim after it fully clothed, no vest. Got tired and went under . Sad Quote

ltolson Posted July 31, 2004 Author Posted July 31, 2004 I was accused on more than one occasion by my wife of being obsessed with the build. I will admit to waking up thinking about the project. It was alot of fun. I did have a great build partner though. My daughter is as handy in the workshop as anyone I know. She is a better engineer with a great eye for detail. She saved me from layout errors more than once and even caught the infamous station 13 error. Disappeared for the fiberglassing/sanding though. Quote
Barry Pyeatt Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 Funny isn't it how you go thru a mental process of envisioning all the things that need to be done. At least I do anyway. Pre-playing the steps that I need to take to accomplish the task. My kids are all grown, but when I need a bit of help, my son or my daughter is there to give me a hand. My son in particular is a great project person. He has a knack for seeing how things should go together and the best way for it to happen. He's usually correct too. I'm kinda stalled right now on the glassing. Can't do much until I get an ok from my Dr. to work with the resin and the glass. So...I'm getting a lot of the other smaller projects finished. I know that it is a great feeling when they want to know how things are going and they go out of their way to check on the progress and see first hand. My son-in-law is a high end auto painter. Does some incredible work, but he isn't a bit interested in being involved. Does too much of it all day long I guess. Plus he is afraid of the water. But he has some good suggestions and ideas about what I could use and how to do it. Your Weekender looks great. Nice color scheme and looks like it will be a great enjoyment for all of you. You'll get used to how it handles and Lake St. Clair will still be there for you to enjoy. Quote
