Dave R1 Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 Yesterday we finally got to go sailing. Julie K performed flawlessly and we even took Ian, our 5 week old son, out for awhile. Don't know if he liked it, he slept most of the time and only woke when he was hungry. Bill Paxton and his bride Nancy joined us with their Surprise and we had a great time. Dave R1 Posted June 7, 2004 Author Posted June 7, 2004 Ayup, that would be a Weekender. Bill chose to do his without the cabin which makes it a wonderful boat for taking out 4 or 5 people. It also makes it nicer for going up to the mast to deal with the halyards which don't need to be led aft. He opted for a tiller rather than a wheel which, combined with the wide open cockpit, allows him to move forward a bit to adjust the trim. I don't think he's done it but I think with his arrangement he could create a very able camper by rigging a boom tent and putting a removable decking between the full-length seats. The seats are storage lockers and the fore peak area is entirely enclosed to make good dry storage. Quote

I'm not much of a camper, and the additional room would be great. I am about 75% done with my first Weekender. I am hoping to be glassing and painting in the next week or so.
