BEST ROWING BOAT?

I know this is a bit off the track but what do any of you blokes know about rowing boats made of ply?

I have seen one by CHesapeake Light Craft in Wooden Boat and one called the Merry Wherry.

I want something light enough to get off the roof racks of my 4wd, into North Creek and go for a sliding seat style of row with out falling out or swamping..

Any suggestions?

It's not sliding seat but the Whisp Skiff is supposed to be a great rowing boat. It also sails very well from what I understand. It's been on my short list for a few years now. Once I get my shop built I want to build one.

I know you are looking for a row boat, but have you considered the advantages of a forward facing double paddle canoe for the same purpose?

The pros of this approach are that you get to see where you are going! The double paddle is very easy for controlling the boat.

The canoe is not as stable as the row boat. Generally these boats wont cooperate with a bunch of moving around the boat, but once you are seated they are a stable and comfortable ride.

I built a couple of Wee Lassie canoes which are very light weight - about 12 kg, and can slip through very thin water. I have run rivers and fished from them, plus explored some very back waters where others dare not go.
