Problems viewing pictures/emoticons?

Scott Dufour asked me if anyone else has had problems viewing the images and little emoticons (smilies) on the site. I know a couple of you have had that problem, and we resolved it, but I can't for the life of me remember how we resolved it!

So if you remember what it was, please speak up!

I had that problem for awhile after I installed Norton Internet Security on my system. it turned out that the settings of the above mentioned software were not allowing the images to load, it thought they were pop ups and was blocking them.

I re-configured my Norton settings and problem went away. You might check to see if your firewall is blocking the images on your computer.

Norton Internet Security was the culprit for me, too. I finally went into "Privacy Control" and had to turn off "Enable Browser Privacy." This is a function that prevents web sites from knowing the last web site you visited. Once I made this change I could see all the graphics and emoticons.

The "popup blocker" thing is easy, you will never, ever have a popup window on messing-about.com unless you have a private message waiting for you (and then it will pop up only when you first visit the forum). So, look for a configuration item where you can allow pop ups on a certain site, and enter messing-about.com. I'm pretty certain Norton has that configuration item available.

Cookies are required to keep your log in information and your last read message pointer. The phpBB forum cookie, the only one the site uses, does not keep any personal information in it except your login name and password. To allow cookies in Internet Explorer for messing-about.com, select Tools*Internet Options*Privacy and make sure you have the "cookie setting" on either "High", "Medium High" or one of the lower settings. If you use "High" or "Medium High", click on the "Edit" button to "Override cookie settings for individual web sites." Enter "messing-about.com" and click "Allow" to always allow the cookie from this site.
