Thought maybe you folks would be interested in this. I almost never use a full size foam roller in the shop. I always cut them into either a 3 inch and a 4 inch piece, or two 3 inchers. When cutting a 7 inch roller cover into 3 inch parts, you are left with a 1 inch ring. I use those rings to make foam brushes to spread glue, or epoxy on small jobs. Of course, you can cut them wider if you need to, but the ones I use are just about right for glueing stringers, etc.

The picture shows a well used notched stick with a chunk of roller in it, a freshly cut one and several pieces of roller. It should be self explanatory.

Charlie,

I have been using my own version of this WEST brush for many years. I found that roller section could slip from the notch and that the lower part could contact the work. I cut the stick to fit the inside radius and hot melt glue it. When finished, just tear it off and mount another one.

Greg- yes, I've been known to do that. I've also used a set of forceps to grab the edge of the piece of foam to get into a particularly tight spot. Whatever it takes.

Tom's idea of hot gluing the foam to the stick is not a bad one either. I've never done that but I'll bear it in mind. Ya never know when something will require a change in methods. :D

This is great. Guys from Texas' date=' North Carolina, and Michaigan sharing shop tips. Sometimes I'm amazed at what has become routine for us![/quote']

And all because of Frank too! THANK YOU, FRANK!!! :D

Getting to know and share with all of you has and is one of the better things in my life. I hope someday to actually also meet and visit face to face with as many of you as I can. Our visit with Charlie and Laura was the highlight of our long overdue trip to Texas. I hope to make some of the Mess Abouts next year.

It is really COOL too that we can get to know folks from other continents and countries, such as Australia, South America, Europe, the Philippines, England, and more.

What do you guys think of adding a woodworking section to the forums? It seems to be so inter-related to what we do here, and the group here has a tremendous amount of knowledge in this area.
