  1. Jim, Thanks for the information. I've seen those plans before, and I believe that I actually have a set somewhere, but I did not put your picture and those plans together. This is definitely a credit to your craftsmanship. You really did a super job with it. Take care.
  2. Jim, What design is your canoe? I am going to build the Flyfisher canoe, but would like another canoe that is relatively easy to build, so I can finish both over the winter. Your canoe looks perfect for my needs. Thanks. Joe
  3. Rich, I'm a few weeks late to this thread, but wanted to say that your boat looks great. Very nice job. I also plan on building the Flyfisher, and will most likely order the plans in a few days. I wanted to find out how long the boat took you to complete, and how hard was it to build. I know that the description says that it's a great project for those with even the most basic woodworking skills, which pretty much covers me. I was a bit concerned with the cutting of the butterfly pattern and the bending of the ply, but I guess it is designed to be able to bend the way it needs to. What was the approximate cost for the project? I know that I can get 4x8 sheets of Okume 1088 4mm for $53, but I couldn't find a listing of how many sheets of ply it takes to complete the boat. I'm figuring two, but again I'm not sure. Last question, how much weight can this boat handle? I am 195 lbs at 6'2", and would like to take my 8 y.o. daughter with me. She comes in around 65 lbs or so, so we are at the 260 lb mark. I couldn't find a listing of the capacity for this boat, so I wanted to see if you knew. By the way, Jim Stumpf, your canoe looks great as well. It's nice to see the attention to detail that shows in the breast hooks in the one picture. That canoe looks like another nice project. Thanks. Joe
  4. I just saw on my local PBS channel that there is a documentary series called "New England Maritime Heritage", and one of the episodes details the Herreshoff brothers boat building company. If you google "New England Maritime Heritage Herreshoffs", you should find the information about the program. For anyone in the Philadelphia / Southern NJ area, it will be on this coming Tuesday at 3 pm on the HD channel of WHYY (channel 257 for me on Comcast).
  5. Steve, no, I don't live in St. Petersburg. The picture under my name is of my daughter Alyson, and it was taken by my wife when they were in St. Petersburg, Russia a few years ago. I actually live in a town called Margate, NJ, which is on the same island (Absecon Island) as Atlantic City. Thank you for adding more photos. I will be checking this thread often.
  6. Steve, I will be following this thread while you build. I'm really loving the Rescue Minor and Atkins Sea Bright boats. I only just found out about them from a thread on another board about a newly built production boat called the Oyster Cracker. There was a news story from a Tampa newspaper about this boat, and it had a link to the company's website. From there I found the Rescue Minor, which has lead me to this site. I cannot wait to see your boat as it is being built. Please please please include a lot of pictures. Take care. Joe
