A few years ago, (Pre-9/11, I think.) the crew from a Cuban patrol boat (Coast Guard, if I remember right.) decided to defect. They crossed the straits to Key West. Tied up at the docks. Walked into town, armed (Afraid to leave their guns on the boat, they said.) and in full uniform. Not knowing what to do when no one confronted them, they surrendered to a bartender. If this is an urban legend, The media really screwed up because they presented it as fact. Key West really can be that weird. I can picture no one on the street giving these guys a second glance.

Yeah, I'll probably add it to my collection of plans. It's small enough that you could really trick it out without too much expense. Yes! Please! More paddling stories! My first boat was a (Anyone remember their adds in Popular Mechanics?) "Trail-Craft" frame and canvas canoe kit... That I actually built, FINISHED, and paddled as a kid somewhere around 1970. I paddled in the lakes and ponds of northern Illinois, and also in the mangrove forests of Florida when the folks let me bring it down here on vacation. Years later, my wife and I were going through some tough times. We bought a fiberglass canoe, and as a kind of stress release, we paddled a local river here in Florida almost every weekend. If I had trouble falling asleep in those days, I would imagine myself on that river. Sitting perfectly motionless. With the paddle across my lap. The only movement being the occasional drip of water falling off the end of my blade, into the flat, dark water, as the slow moving current carried me down stream... Who needs sheep? Later, we hung a Cruise & Carry outboard on it, and then an electric for a while, and started fishing the saltwater bays. Frequently being asked, "You're going out THERE... in THAT?" Then we got a "real" boat... and caught less fish. Then we got a little bit bigger boat... and don't even try to fish like we used too. The people really catching the fish are the ones paddling kayaks. That old high- mileage, oyster gouged, canoe was given, not long ago, to a co-worker who doesn't have much else to call his own, other than a fishing rod, due to drug and alcohol issues. I think his passion for the water and fishing is all that keeps him afloat sometimes. Konrad, those pics are off the Glen-L site.

I don't know, Frank. That may have been part of my problem with the Weekender. I would probably be better off only having what I need at the time. (Not allowing myself the fun of buying more goodies until I finish whatever stage it is that I'm working on.) If this project ever gets off the ground, I'm sure I'll have THAT to look forward to... Sigh... Again. : If this project ever gets off the ground, It will probably be just me building one in the hopes that it will spark enough interest in one of the other guys, and make them want one too. I think I'll order 8-Ball plans, the next time I have a few extra bucks. Anyone have any experience with this design, thoughts on it, or Glen-L boats in general? I have a couple of their plans in my collection of "someday" projects, but no 8-Ball.

I told his mother (our niece) that it was coming and would be ready by Christmas. I'd given up on myself finishing what I start... I'm in the shop all day, and would rather be on the water. But then Robin named her first-born, "Noah". I knew I had to build him some kind of ark. It's a slightly modified, Jordan, Jolly Boat Rocker. A quick build... Finished before I got side-tracked.

Well, kinda. I've been playing with plastic power boats these last few years, and really haven't had anything to offer or draw from here. I did build a cradle boat for our niece, when they named their son Noah. Actually, it's a rocker boat. The way I work, I knew he'd outgrow the cradle before it was finished! I lurk in once in a great while. It's good to see the group is still going strong. I was going through all my links the other day, while tropical storm Fay was blowing outside. I came here and noticed that you were posting again. When I saw that you were talking about... of all things... SQUIRRELS!!! I couldn't not jump in! Yeah. I remember that... Don't you have anything better to do at night? Something else I've always wondered about... Your famous hull flying picture... Were you sporting a Mohawk in those days?
